Hello,
You are receiving this message because you have (or had) an active CCDB account that gives access to the Grex HPC system.
We are announcing a test, or pilot, of a new storage option on Grex: Nextcloud. It is a storage and data sharing software that provides a Web interface to share data with selected collaborators, and a synchronizing Desktop client, similar to popular services like Dropbox, OneDrive, etc.
Access requires a Grex/CCDB account, and accounts are per-user. While the underlying storage is the same as Grex's 2 Petabyte filesystem, user data from inside Grex is not automatically visible via Nextcloud (it must be moved between these different parts of storage using a tool like Rclone).
* Server URL: https://nextcloud.hpc.umanitoba.ca
* Server Location: High Performance Computing Centre (HPCC), University of Manitoba.
* Fixed Quota: 100 GB per user.
* Backup Policy: Weekly on-site tape backup.
* Access Methods: Web interface, Nextcloud Desktop Sync Client, Nextcloud mobile apps, Rclone, WebDAV clients.
* Compliance: As of now, the Nextcloud pilot is not an REB-approved location for storing sensitive data.
More documentation is available at https://um-grex.github.io/grex-docs/data-transfer/nextcloud/
We are looking for users interested in testing this service. If you or your group members would like to try it out, please do so and share your experiences with us. We look forward to your feedback.
Thank you very much!
