Assistant/Associate Professor Position Department of Gender and Women’s Studies College of Liberal Arts & Sciences University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign The Department of Gender and Women's Studies invites applications and nominations for a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor tenure-track faculty position in Black feminist studies, broadly defined. We are seeking applicants whose research and teaching will contribute to the department's existing strengths in transnational, global and diasporic feminisms; trans studies; and queer of color critique. We welcome applicants whose work engages areas such as (but not limited to) environmental studies, indigeneity, and practice-based research/methods. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of or potential for interdisciplinary research publication and preparation to teach core courses in Gender and Women's Studies. Successful candidates are expected to teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, establish and maintain an active research program, and provide service to the department, the university and various publics. A PhD in Gender and Women's Studies, African American Studies, Ethnic Studies, or related field is required. The candidate will be expected to teach two courses in their area of research and attract graduate students to the program. Service will be required both within the University and through various professional and public organizations linked to the candidate's area of expertise. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a research program that addresses the current gaps in political ecology with respect to sustainable solutions, especially around Indigenous peoples and other equity-deserving groups, and Canadian urban and/or rural development. Of relevance would be work that engages societal needs in the areas of human-environment relations with a strong emphasis on justice, power and/or inequity. Qualifications : The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. and proven success in leading an independently organized research program related to inequity, the legacies of colonialism, Indigenous studies, race/racism, urban and environmental governance, and/or the politics of sustainability. Ability to achieve research excellence and external funding in the areas of environmental justice, political ecology and social-ecological transformations is required. Experience in teaching and mentoring graduate students, research associates and/or undergraduate students is expected. We hope this theme will help guide us in future work including Critical Conversations, guest lectures and research opportunities and collaborations. The student will be a key member of the Foreign Policy and Diplomacy Service team at the Embassy of Canada in The Hague. Specifically, the student will be assigned to files relating to: international courts and tribunals based in The Hague (International Criminal Court, International Court of Justice), political and economic developments in the Netherlands, and other bilateral and international relations issues, e.g., human rights, sanctions, cybersecurity, and peace & security. The student will also be asked to contribute to the planning and execution of mission events and visits, including through social media and public diplomacy. Efforts will be made to adapt work around the student’s interests and academic and professional goals. Depending on the COVID-19 situation and health, safety and travel considerations, it is intended that this internship be based in The Hague.
