AMA members have indicated a strong interest in the work of the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation, and in the broader project of archival decolonization. The AMA Education Committee has collaborated with NCTR staff to organize an event that will let us learn about the NCTR, as well as discuss the ways in which the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission can be applied in our own archival institutions. The evening will begin with a tour of the NCTR, during which participants will learn about the Centre’s mission and mandate. Following the tour, we will hear a talk unpacking the archival implications of the Calls to Action, as well as the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and the Joinet-Orentlicher principles. The talk will then be followed by a practical activity in which participants will have the opportunity to work through a number of the Calls to Action and apply them to their own workplaces. Light refreshments will be provided. The event will be led by: Raymond Frogner Director of Archives, National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation Greg Bak Associate Professor, History (Archival Studies), University of Manitoba This event is FREE; however, due to space limits and to plan for refreshments, we request that interested participants RSVP by Friday, 1 March 2018 to the Association for Manitoba Archives by using the "Register" button at http://mbarchives.ca/event-3283607or by phoning the AMA office at (204-942-3491) with participant name and institution. If you are not affiliated with a particular institution, please note if you are an individual or student member of the AMA. Part planetarium show and part rumination on Alice in Wonderland, the nature of rabbits, and heroes, The Local Sky Tonight is an off-kilter guide to the stars. The Winnipeg debut of this performance (approx. 45 minutes) will be followed by a discussion of the cosmos and the imagination featuring a panel of local scientists, artists, and thinkers.Tickets available on Eventbrite: $5 for students (by donation), $10 general admission (by donation). No one will be turned away for lack of funds. **Please be aware that because payment is by donation, tickets are issued one at a time.
