Hi folks,
We had planned to have a meeting after we heard back from SSHRC. We don’t know, of course, what the issue was with our application, but I think it would be prudent to consider the possibility that we might not get a SSHRC grant. Or at least we have to determine how we would deal with such a scenario. We can have a Zoom meeting beforehand if anyone thinks it useful but, in any case, I would like for the fundraising committee to have a face-to-face meeting in Winnipeg after the broader committee meets so that we can think about our budget, and have a fuller discussion of the issues and options. In the meantime (and it is only a week), we should hold off making any commitments on issues such as keynote speakers (I don’t know where Krishna is with this).
Let me know your thoughts, and if you agree. And whether we should meet right after the larger meeting, or take a break and meet, say Tuesday or Wednesday, if folks are around then.

Hi everyone,
I’ve had a bit of trouble setting up a meeting. It seems to me now that we’re getting close enough to hearing from SSHRC that we might as well wait. We should still have a meeting before the meeting of the full committee (the exact date of which is still to be determined, but between the 16 and 20th of July).
Best
Jim

Hi everyone.
You will have received a message from the general WGSCC listserv putting off a meeting until July. In the meantime, I would like the Fundraising Committee (which I assume is me, Jim M., Rhonda, Krishna and Paul Jenkins; I'm not sure if Jeff is on this listserv (how do you find out who is? I hope this is going to everyone I think it is) so I've cc'd him.
The purpose is to bring everybody up to speed on MFL and U of M roles in finding the conference and see what needs to be done in that respect, as well as to think about other sources of funding that we haven't tapped. In particular, as well, perhaps we can think about other kinds of sponsorships for big ticket items like Bragg and the keynote speakers. And there are other smaller things that we can think about: ads in the program (we've already had a request from BTL), etc.
Also, we don't really have an executive or agenda committee for what is a fairly large committee, so I wouldn't mind hijacking this group a bit just to make sure that things are not falling through the cracks, and that we can plan for a fruitful meeting in July.
I hope this all makes sense. I'd like to have this Zoom meeting in the next week to 10 days. My schedule is relatively open so I'll leave it up to others to say when they may or may not be free during this time period. Let me know.
Thanks,
Jim

This was part of an email that Esyllt Jones sent me a while ago; I figure it’s of interest for this committee to note and to follow up on…
"I would like St John’s College to be involved in supporting the conference. We don’t have a huge amount of money to play with, but I’m pretty sure we can donate $1000 or maybe a bit more. I am Dean of Studies at the College for the next few years, so I will facilitate that.”
