Share on behalf of Ryan Schultz, Reference Librarian and Liaison Librarian for the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences
---- The following information was shared with all UM Libraries staff this morning, and I thought that you might appreciate knowing the latest details as well. The Jim Peebles Science and Technology Library in Machray Hall on the Fort Garry Campus of the University of Manitoba will be closed on May 1, 2024. The renovation is slated to take 2.5 years.
The collection
Access to the electronic full-text collection will remain unchanged. UM Libraries is continuing to actively shift its collection from print to full-text electronic resources wherever possible.
The circulating print collection, approximately 27,000 items, will be moved to the 3rd floor of Dafoe on May 6, 2024. These are items that will be returned to the Science Library after construction in Machray Hall ends.
The remainder of the print collection, approximately 127,000 items, will be sent to an offsite storage facility. What this means is that you will be able to place a request/hold for an item through our library catalogue, Library Search, and you should be able to get the item the next business day (this happens already for print items held in the Annex storage located behind Elizabeth Dafoe Library).
The staff
Staff (including me!) will be moved to locations in Room 112 Elizabeth Dafoe Library on June 6, 2024. My desk telephone had already been replaced with a work iPhone, and my work cellphone is (204) 914-0492. Please note that I do NOT carry my work iPhone around with me after regular work hours; please leave a message on my voice-mail, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Please do not hesitate to contact me (all my contact info is in my email signature below) if you have any questions about the closing. Thanks,
-Ryan.
