Hi Everyone Some safety items for Plant Science
1) There are two new safety apps to try out. The University of Manitoba UM Safe app (Free Download) that has many useful links including Work Alone check in, Safe Walk and Mobile Blue Light to contact Campus Security.
The Canadian Red Cross has a First Aid app (Free Download) with guides to many health emergency resources. Both apps are useful resources to have on your phone.
2) A reminder to everyone to update your Chemical Inventories and to make sure you have a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for every chemical on your list. The SDS must be specific to the manufacturer and contain contact information for the "responsible party". Chemical inventory lists must be printed and posted in your research area. The SDS can be kept as an electronic file but must be accessible to everyone in your research unit. Further information regarding SDS can be found here: The SDS FAQ: Compliance (ilpi.com)http://www.ilpi.com/msds/faq/partd.html#hardcopy
Also, a reminder to continue work on SOPs for your area. SOPs for the most frequently performed high hazard tasks should have already been written. Please continue working on SOPs for the other hazardous tasks in your work area.
