Question about Queues & Buddies

Hi everyone, I've had a few questions about the display of Queues & Buddies in the Pidgin chat window. Each queue is essentially a channel within the overall LibraryH3lp chat network. The channel that everyone uses and is connected to is ask-a-librarian-general. Some people/departments have also set up their own individual queues, which means that not everyone is connected to those queues. However as part of the bigger chat network, they do "light up" up in the overall Queues list when they're active. Your Buddies list appears below the Queues. Buddies show you which other library chat operators are online with you. A chime sounds when anyone signs on or off. Also displayed in the Buddies list is the LibraryH3lp "don't delete me" message, which we need in order for the system to work. To avoid confusion between Queues & Buddies, you may wish to minimize the Queue display. You can do this by clicking on the tiny box beside the Q in the Queues heading. This will collapse the list. I've attached a screenshot to illustrate. If you have any other questions, please let me know. Virtual Ref "joker"

Hi everyone, I just want to advise you that we have a repeat customer who seems to get his or her jollies from asking questions about "poo" (not the Winnie-the-Pooh kind). We've received at least 4 of these chats by this person, the latest being this afternoon. The chats are the sort of thing you might get from a grade-school student. They're not obscene, but they *are* annoying. I would suggest that if you get this person that you either close the chat or advise them that we can trace their IP address. Strange VR message this a.m.

Hi everyone, Just a heads-up that Lorna had a strange VR message this morning. The person submitted a very long rant against an aboriginal healer. As Lorna points out, it must have been cut & pasted because it's at least a page of text long. Interestingly, there is no originating IP attached to the message, so it may even be spam of some kind. I'll alert LETS. In the meantime if you get this or something similar, don't respond, close the chat & let me know. Thks Betty
