Temporary access issues for some Nature journals

Hi everyone, A faculty member contacted me who is having issues accessing articles from Nature journals such as Nature Plants. I emailed Electronic Resources and it is a known issue to them with all of the Nature publications right now. Electronic services forwarded me the following which is a quoted statement from Kristen Kruse sent to her staff on the issue: "Hi - we've run out of downloads on our Nature Articles on Demand account, and don't have the go-ahead for more just yet. If we don't get that soon I'll ask the OA team to deactivate the titles, but for now if you're on troubleshooting and it comes up can you make a note of it and let them know we expect it to be a temporary situation." So if you do have this come up; recommend to the patron that they request the article through Document Delivery for now. You should also report this issue to Electronic Resources. To anyone on VR this morning

Hello, While on VR today (from 12-1), I got a question from someone, who then immediately signed off. Presumably they thought that 1) I was the person that they were talking to earlier and 2) That I knew who they are and how to get in touch with them. I'm sending this out in hopes that whoever initially answered this request, can identify it, and get back to the patron. I think it is important in terms of customer service/library image to respond to this person, if possible. VR update: inappropriate chat incident

Hello, We had an inappropriate chat incident recently that required us to permanently block the IP address of the offending party. This is a good time to review the procedure. 1. It is difficult to know the exact nature of the query. Do not ignore queries; if you are unsure of the appropriateness, accept the query and remain professional at all times. 2. If at any point during a VR chat you are asked an inappropriate question (“Are you female?”, “Are you married?”, etc.), you should immediately use the following script: "It is clear that you are not contacting the Libraries AskALibrarian service for research information. Your IP address will be blocked and information regarding this chat will be turned over to the Campus IT Security Coordinator and to the University of Manitoba Security Services.” 3. After sending this script, do not engage further. Block the patron’s IP address. (it’s the red button with a diagonal line through a circle - see attached image) 4. Report the incident to me. STAT 1000 practice exams

Taking VR calls - lag time?

Hello: Could someone please clear up - at what point does the VR automatically locks/assign the session to an operator? Is it after you've typed and hit SEND? During some busy shifts when several VR staff are signed on, there was a confusion on who's answering a call because there is no indication on the screen that a staff is already composing a response on the message box. Chemistry questions

There is an assignment on right now for organic chemistry students. You may end up getting some questions through VR. They need to find a melting point for a chemical substance. They should start by looking at the resources listed under "Starting Sources for Physical Property Data". You can refer them to this subject guide: https://umanitoba.libapps.com/libguides/admin_c.php?g=297470&p=1993914 (It is the Organic Chemistry course guide under the Chemistry subject guide). They can also email me if they need more information. The students also need to find a journal article with the melting point. The best resource is SciFinder for this type of search. There is a video on this same page (link on the left-hand side of the page) to "Using SciFinder to Find Property Data". Everyone needs to set up their own SciFinder account. There is a link to SciFinder on the course guide page as well.
