Decision re CMHR CAHRI membership + CYHR calls

Dear colleagues, I trust this finds you well in these troubling (and busy) times. I am addressing you with regard to the following two matters: 1. Wrt the request from the Canadian Museum for Human Rights request to join CAHRI, I have received a handful of positive responses and no negative reactions to my suggestion that CMHR be offered a qualified membership of CAHRI (in the status of "Observer" or "Associate" without voting rights for CAHRI decisions). If I hear no definite negative reaction from CAHRI members by end of 31 October, I will convey to the CMHR a positive response to their request (as qualified - for which I understand they are entirely positively disposed). 1. Wrt the next issue of the Canadian Yearbook of Human Rights (CYHR), Vol. IV (2022-2023, to be published summer 2024), we are still accepting unsolicited articles for the General Section (addressing any issue of human rights in or relating to Canada: https://www.uottawa.ca/research-innovation/hrrec/news/call-papers-canadian-… ) and we remain interested in unpublished documentation of broad significance (including original materials/official documentation or summaries of conferences etc.). Great and thanks! I would hope and expect that Volker is the best HC so far given his career experience in the UN and broad field work etc. which none others had in the same measure/character (well, Sergio & Bertie did... but all too short in office). On September 29th in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Nursing Students' Association in collaboration with the Office of the Vice-President (Indigenous), the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation, the Centre for Human Rights Research, the University of Manitoba's Student Union, PINE (Pathway to Indigenous Nursing Education), and the Indigenous Students' Association will be hosting a day of events from 8:30 am to 3 pm. Part of the day's events will include a Teach-In for Reconciliation at Investors Group Athletic Centre from 8:30 am to 11 am featuring: * Dr. Sean Carleton on combating Residential School denialism; * Dr. Cary Miller on the Doctrine of Discovery and the Pope's apology; * Marc Kruse on the Peace and Friendship treaties which were formed at the Treaty of Niagara; * Prof. Brenda Gunn on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The first 500 people will receive a free orange t-shirt. If you already own an orange shirt, we encourage you to wear it to the event. Registration is not required.
