We are happy to announce a new deadline for our educational program Spanish Film Club (SFC), which offers grants to universities to bring an Ibero American film festival to campus. Grants cover between 30% and 50% of the costs and come with programming advice, as well as the possibility of scheduling Q&As with filmmakers. The deadline for grant applications is April 15, 2017.

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Mount Allison University invites applications for a 9-month Instructorship in Spanish language, tenable for 3 years. This position comes with a 3-3 teaching load (Fall and Winter terms). The successful candidate will be expected to teach Spanish language courses and to contribute to the department’s activities in the form of service to the Spanish section and to the department. The successful candidate will have an MA in Spanish or an equivalent qualification. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish is essential, as is experience teaching university-level Spanish language to non-native speakers. Familiarity with a range of regional varieties of Spanish will be considered an asset. Candidates possessing or in active pursuit of a doctorate will not be considered, as per the collective agreement with the Mount Allison Faculty Association.
Applicants should electronically submit a letter of introduction containing an overview of both their education and teaching experience, a CV, and a list of three references and their contact information. Premio- Certamen de Artes Visuales 2017: LIII Congreso de la Asociación Canadiense de Hispanistas.
El Equipo del Registro Creativo de la Asociación Canadiense de Hispanistas (ACH) en coordinación con la Junta Directiva de la ACH, anuncian los resultados del Certamen de Pintura del LIII Congreso de la ACH.
El premio ha sido otorgado mediante un proceso anónimo e imparcial al artista José Mañoso Flores, de Figueres, Girona, España. En sus observaciones sobre la obra laureada, el jurado enfatizó la el alto valor artístico de la obra, sus muchos colores, y el tema canadiense. También se comentó el vínculo con la sigla de la ACH.
La obra ganadora ha sido seleccionada entre los artistas participantes afiliados al Registro Creativo que han presentado obras de variadas tendencias, técnicas y estilos artísticos durante el periodo de recepción de las obras que cerró el primero de febrero de 2017.
El premio se ha concedido a José Mañoso Flores por su obra “Habitación en movimiento” (2005), un cuadro hecho al óleo. El creador es un afiliado al Registro Creativo, nacido en España, que, además de ser artista, también es autor de seis antologías poéticas. Como artista, Mañoso Flores se formó en el taller del pintor catalán Joan Ferrer y, desde 1984, ha realizado tres exposiciones individuales y participado en una veintena de exposiciones colectivas.
Al presentar su obra al Certamen, José Mañoso Flores comentó el proceso hacer: "Mi amiga [la artista española] Begoña Ramos hizo unos años antes una exposición en gran formato sobre los monjes que habitaron en Sant Pere de Roda. En un cuadro se veía un monje en una posición mística y, a su alrededor, las paredes del santuario, las ventanas, el órgano de tubos. Todo se doblaba, se retorcía, levitaba, como si quisiera elevarse a los cielos. Me pareció una obra maestra y, a un nivel más doméstico, quise plasmar esas ventanas, puertas, etc. que se ondulan, que parecen inconsistentes, como si el espacio escapase de las leyes de la Física."
El Jurado del Certamen de Pintura estuvo compuesto por el Presidente de la ACH, Dr. Enrique Fernández, la Presidenta y Fundadora del Registro Creativo, Nela Rio, y el Representante estudiantil de la Comisión Directiva de la ACH, Víctor Bedoya Ponte. Todos destacaron el valor artístico de todas las obras presentadas. Nuestro profundo agradecimiento al jurado por su participación en este certamen.
La obra premiada aparecerá en el programa impreso del LIII Congreso de la ACH que tendrá lugar que se celebrará del 31 de mayo al 2 de junio de 2017 en la Universidad de Ryerson, Toronto, Ontario, Canadá. Además, se incluirá en forma virtual en la página web del Registro Creativo y en el sitio web de la ACH.
