FYI: link error in LibChat

Hi all, Just FYI, there is a bug in the new LibChat regarding URLs. When you share a URL with a patron, particularly when it is at the end of a message, the software is sometimes adding HTML break code. The URL will look normal on your screen, but when clicked the break will be appended - eg. converting www.google.com/<http://www.google.com/> to www.google.com/<br<http://www.google.com/%3cbr>> . This will often result in a 404 error for the patron. Springshare is aware of this issue and is working on a fix. Best, Nicole

Hi, I would like to remind you that at this moment new students still need to log into signUM and request access to Library in order for their accounts to be created in Alma. It is a known issue to IST. They are working on the direct creation of library accounts but don't have a timeline yet. Hopefully, the fix will be deployed sometime this semester. FYI: changes to Consumer Health (NJM) patron access to online resources

Hi everyone, Effective September 4, 2018, consumer health patrons (http://umanitoba.ca/libraries/services/borrow_privilege.html) will no longer have unrestricted internet access. Unlike guest accounts, this (small) user group has had access to online resources beyond university databases, etc., as they have a physical card with a username and password per the Consumer & Patient Health Information Service: http://libguides.lib.umanitoba.ca/chis/librarycard Beginning September 4, they will not have a password associated with their account anymore (and therefore unable to pass the proxy to get to Google, Facebook, etc). There is lots of signage up at the NJM about this already, so this should not come as a surprise. It is very unlikely that you will see these folks in any unit other than the NJM, nor should you expect to see queries come in via chat reference. NJM Library summer schedule: effective May 22, 2018

The NJM Library will be switching to summer hours effective Tuesday, May 22 through August 31. The library will be closed on the long weekend (May 19, 20, and on Victoria Day, May 21). NJM Library’s summer hours are: Monday – Thursday: 8am – 7pm Friday: 8am – 5pm Saturday: closed Sunday: closed There will be no extended or ‘study hall’ hours during the summer period. Hi Nicole, I would like to let you know that the WRHA Twitter account has been added to LibApps. At this moment, the integration is limited to LibAnswers. I have added that account to the LibAnswer queue. Thus, users can send tickets to LibAnswers via Twitter. The tickets will then come into our open Tickets queue. I am ccing Lib-VR since there is only one ticket queue in LibAnswers. It is used by both UM and WRHA. WRHA Virtual Library Update and Important Information

Good Morning An email was sent to hospital library patrons with 14-digit 22212338…. library cards informing them that these cards will be expired on April 2, 2018. We are receiving a number of questions from these patrons and they could be contacting chat reference for assistance. Here are the facts: * These users are now being served through the WRHA Virtual Library and are being transitioned to new user ids. * New WRHA VL user ids were sent out by email in January. * Users from personal care homes and community funded agencies have a registration process found here http://libguides.lib.umanitoba.ca/wrha/chapch * Not all WRHA staff are eligible for a WRHA Virtual Library Account. * Some WRHA staff also have, or are eligible for UMNetIDs. They are free to use both, and are encouraged to claim their UMNetIDs. * WRHA staff may borrow items in-person at U of M Libraries. Circulation staff are to override and check out the item to the patron’s VL account found in ALMA * Do NOT extend 338 cards for WRHA patrons. WRHA VL staff will be monitoring Chat Reference on the day the notices are sent out and for a few days once access is discontinued.
