I am working as this year's TD friends of the Environment Go Green
Challenge motivator and I am looking to spread the around the Faculty of
Environment, Earth and Resources. It is a great opportunity for students
to work with faculty members to submit their ideas and possibly win a
rather large sum of money. Attached are the rules and regulations and
the official website. Please email me if you have any questions or if
you would like the faculty to get more involved or if you are interested
in incorporating the challenge in your curriculum. *I am also looking to
make a 5 minute presentation at the beginning of class so students are
more aware of the challenge.
*
Thanks
Lisa Ewasko

Good Morning All:
I am forwarding this email to you on behalf of Annemieke Farenhorst,
Acting Head, Department of Soil Science:
*Learn about one of our projects at:*
*http://www.umanitoba.ca/afs/centralamerica_cbpm/about_en.htm*
*I wanted to inform you that there is a new official UMSU club called
the UofM Rangelands Club for undergraduate and graduate students. I was
wondering if you would be able to share the information with the other
professors and Agriculture department heads so that they aware of what's
going on and the students that are participating.*
The club is for students interested in learning about as well as
making industry contacts in the area of rangelands and ecosystem
management and all related subjects. The students will
be studying and preparing for (with help from industry professionals and
researchers) written exams, group problem solving
activities, and student paper presentations at the Society for Range
Management (SRM) annual conference coming up in February in
Denver, Colorado. The University of Alberta and University of
Saskatchewan send a student team to this conference annually
and this will be the first time the University of Manitoba will be
represented. The students will be putting in a lot of
hard work and time to prepare for the conference and student competitions.
So far, we have 7 undergraduate students and 2 graduate students that
are interested in studying and learning about
range management and they come from very different backgrounds:
Animal Systems
Ag Business
Agronomy
Agroecology
*This year's SRM annual meeting is being held in conjunction with the
Weed Science Society of America conference, and the theme is invasive
species management. We will be looking for any interested speakers to
meet with the students to help them prepare for the conference. We
will also be looking for some sponsors to help cover some of our costs.
We meet every Tuesday at 5:30 in the Ellis Building, room 342. For more
info contact:*

The Faculty of Graduate Studies, with the UM Libraries and the Learning
Technologies Centre, encourages you to attend an information session
about copyright.
Anyone who plans on incorporating a substantial portion of a copyrighted
work or a complete copyrighted work (e.g., a journal article,
photograph, table, map, diagram, graph, figure or poem) into their
research or thesis must have the permission of the copyright holder to
do so. Posting material to an online course or the Libraries' E-Reserve
system, adapting or modifying a work requires permission as well. In
these instances, citing material is not enough. Permission is required
whether the copyrighted material came from the Web, a book, a journal or
a government source. Find out about when to get permission, how to get
permission, the electronic thesis option, posting material to an online
classroom, and more.
Who would benefit from attending a session?
* Anyone using copyrighted material in or for their research
* Graduate students writing or preparing to write their theses
* Faculty, instructors, lecturers, TAs, and others posting
copyrighted material to ANGEL, JUMP, other Web sites
or repositories such as MSpace
* Faculty, department heads, and graduate chairs advising and
supervising graduate students
* Graduate program assistants, administrative assistants, office
assistants, and any staff assisting faculty or graduate students
with theses, research and posting materials online.
