required
_Action Required_
Dear all U of M students,
As you may be aware, when you graduate from a post-secondary institution
and live and work in Manitoba you are eligible for a rebate on tuition
paid after December 31, 2003. Manitoba Finance and the Canada Revenue
Agency require the University of Manitoba to send your T2202A tax
receipt information to them each year to verify your eligibility for
this rebate. Your consent is required for the University of Manitoba to
begin submitting this information on your behalf. Consent is required
only once. T2202A information for 2010 will be sent in early 2011.
To provide your consent, log into Aurora Student and go to Enrolment &
Academic Records |Declarations | Declare Consent for Release of T2202A
Tax Receipt Information. Read the information carefully and either
consent or decline to have your information sent to Manitoba Finance and
the Canada Revenue Agency in support of the tuition tax credit. If you
choose to decline, your T2202A receipt information will not be forwarded
to Manitoba Finance and the Canada Revenue Agency.
If you do not respond by June 30, 2010 you will be required to do so the
next time you log in to register or to access your grades. The Hold that
prevents you from registering or viewing grades will be removed
immediately after you respond and you may proceed immediately without
further delay. i.e. you will not have to log again.
Further information on the Manitoba Tuition Fee Income Tax Rebate
Program is available at http://gov.mb.ca/tuitionrebate/faq.html

Please see the following message regarding registration. Please note
that you do not have to register for "re-registration" as indicated
below. In Plant Science, graduate students register for the "Thesis"
each year to ensure that they retain status.

Please find below two important notices about graduate student
registration:
#1. Required registration and course numbers for
graduate students; and
#2. Information regarding "Extra Courses," "Maximum
Credit Hours," and "Degree Requirements."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*#1.*
*Information for all Master's and Ph.D. students who are continuing in
their programs (except MBA and MPA students*):*
As you are probably aware all graduate students are required to register
every September and January for the coming academic year or they will be
"discontinued" from their program of studies. Therefore, it is essential
that you (as a continuing graduate student) register for "something" in
both the Fall and Winter terms.
The most efficient way of ensuring that you are registered in order to
retain status is to register for the
"Re-Registration" course:
"Master's re-registration"
GRAD 7020 A02 CRN = 10384 (spanned course -- both Fall and Winter term)
or
"Ph.D. re-registration"
GRAD 8020 A02 CRN = 10400 (spanned course -- both Fall and Winter term )
This re-registration should be over and above any course registration(s)
you complete. If you are registered for the re-registration course (over
both Fall and Winter terms) you will retain status in your graduate
program even if you withdraw from courses.
*MBA and MPA students: if you need to register for re-registration only,
please contact your departmental graduate program assistant.
The only students who will NOT have to register for both the Fall and/or
Winter terms are:
· Students on a Parental or Exceptional Leave -- you do not have to
register in the term(s) for which the leave is approved. (Students on
Regular Leave are still required to register for the re-registration
course number in both Fall and Winter terms.)
· Students who are certain they will be graduating in February 2011 -
These students should register for their final exercise/project for Fall
term, i.e., Thesis/practicum/comprehensive exam/engineering project or
the final course or re-registration GRAD 7020/GRAD 8020 for Fall term only.
The CRN's for the Fall and Winter term courses that are not spanned can
be found by searching the "Class Schedule" on the web which can be
accessed through the following website:
https://aurora.umanitoba.ca/banprod/twbkwbis.P_GenMenu?name=homepage
<http://umanitoba.ca/student/records/>
If you have questions about registration please contact your
departmental graduate program assistant.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*#2.*
*Important information for all Master's and Ph.D. students:*
This is a notice/reminder to please plan your program carefully. Many of
the luxury "built in" checks we had in the former student database are
no longer available. It is imperative that you ensure you are
registering for only those courses that are a major part of your
Master's or Ph.D. program. If they are not part of your major program
then they should be added through your Department office as an Auxiliary
course "X" or an Occasional course "O". Also please ensure that you do
not register for more courses than your program allows. (Please check
with your department on this. If you register for courses that are above
the maximum threshold of your program, extra fees will be assessed at
the time of graduation when a final program check is made at the time of
graduation.)
I would like to draw your attention to the following academic regulation
of the Faculty of Graduate Studies:
"*Students are ultimately responsible for ensuring that they meet degree
and program requirements.* The advisor (co-advisor), advisory committee
and the department must ensure that each student follows the guidelines
and meets the program requirements. The Faculty of Graduate Studies
performs a final check of program requirements for each student just
prior to graduation. Students are cautioned, therefore, to check all
regulations with respect to the degree requirements. Failure to meet all
the requirements will result in failure to graduate."
Once again, please be attentive to your program requirements and the
directions given to you by your department.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Hi All
I would like to give you all an update on the PSGSA Fundraiser BBQ for
this summer.
We have decided to book the event for July 29 this year which is rapidly
approaching. This year we have approached Agriculture in the Classroom
as the organiztion to donate the proceeds. This organization helps
introduce agriculture to children in the school system by showing
teachers aspects about agriculture and allowing them to incorporate this
information into there curriculum. A representative from the
organization has agreed to come to the event and say a few words about
what they do and how we can get involved in this program.
As the event quickly approaches there are number of things we need to
get accomplished over the next two weeks. If anyone would like to
assist us in helping organize this event please contact me.
Thanks
Roger Watts
