Hello all,
I am pleased to announce the first annual plant science grad students river trail skate-a-thon. We will be going skating at the Forks on Wednesday, February 11 as long as the weather stays nice and balmy. We will meet in the atrium first around 4:30 and then head to the forks for some skating and drinks afterward. I will be able to give some people rides and other people will have their vehicles so transportation shouldn't be too difficult. Please feel free to come out even if you are not a good skater (or have never skated before) as they have skates for rent at the Forks and it will be a fun chance to enjoy Winnipeg's beautiful February weather. Helmets not provided. Hope to see you there!
Don

Subject: 2015 Bendalow Memorial Lecture
Hello Plant Science Grads,
It has come to my attention that the Department Seminar Series Committee will suggest recommendations for the Bendalow Memorial Lecture at the Department Council meeting later today (2:30pm). The Bendalow Memorial Lecture is a fund that has been donated to the Plant Science Department to pay for and host a visiting lecturer from an external university. If anyone knows of an external lecturer that they would like to see, please send me the recommendation (before 2:30pm) and I will pass it along to the committee.
Thanks,

Hi all,
If anyone interested in ordering a shirt was not able to meet the deadline last Friday, you can still place an order today. We are not yet sure of when we will be ordering grad student shirts again, so this is your last chance to order for the time being.
Anyone who has ordered but has not paid, can give the shirt payment to Charles or me. Shirts are $30.
Thanks,
Gagan

Subject: Symposium Invitation
Greetings,
I would like to extend a formal invitation for you to be a part of the 31st Annual Plant Science Graduate Student Symposium. It will take place March 13th and 14th here at the University of Manitoba. This event brings together graduate students from prairie plant science departments, including the University of Saskatchewan, North Dakota State University, and South Dakota State University. It looks to be two exciting days of sharing research, discussing ideas, and socializing.
We hope that everyone will both attend and present at the symposium. For Friday we have sessions planned that relate to our theme "Growing Skills and Harvesting Change". Friday afternoon and evening we'll head to downtown Winnipeg for tours and supper. Saturday will bring the symposium component. Everyone is encouraged to present; there is a category for all students, including a "Proposals" section for new students. We will conclude the symposium with a semi-formal banquet on Saturday evening.
Please check out our new website: http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~amarascc/index.html. It will be updated as we confirm more details. On the home page you'll find a registration form on the left hand side. Please take a couple minutes to register for this event. The registration deadline is January 31st and abstracts are due by February 14th.
Please don't hesitate to ask myself or another member of the Plant Science Graduate Student Association if you have any questions pertaining to the symposium.
