Good afternoon,
I am emailing in regard to a volunteer opportunity in which your department may be interested: the Manitoba Schools Science Symposium is recruiting judges for the 2018 fair.
Would you be able to distribute information about this opportunity to your department via email, newsletters and social media? Judges should be individuals who have completed or are completing post-secondary education.
These are the fair details:
The Manitoba Schools Science Symposium is an annual provincial science fair for students in Grades 4 -12 with approximately 350 projects per year. We are currently recruiting judges for the 2018 fair. This year it will be held April 27 - 28, 2018 at the University of Manitoba Max Bell Centre. The Department of Soil Science, North Dakota State University, is seeking a highly motivated and skilled
PhD graduate research assistant (GRA) to lead field research on cover crops and tillage practices to
enhance soil water management in the northern Great Plains.
Qualifications:
A recent M.S. in Soil Science, Agricultural Engineering, Hydrology, Agronomy, Plant Science or
closely related field,
Evidence of field and laboratory research skills,
Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational skills,
Evidence of collegiality and civility in the workplace, and
Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in soil moisture, soil‐water‐plant relations, and field water balance monitoring and
modeling,
Demonstrated ability to manage and analyze large datasets,
Demonstrated ability to perform field work under physically demanding conditions,
Demonstrated ability to work and communicate collegially in collaborative teams,
Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with agricultural producers, and
Available to begin summer 2018.

The Faculty of Graduate Studies offers scholarships valued at up to the international differential tuition fee amount, to graduate students who:
(1) are international students (i.e., those in Canada on study permits);
(2) are enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in:
(a) the second year of a Ph.D. program with a two-year fee structure (Plant Science/Soil Science);
(b) the first year of a Ph.D. program after completing a Master's degree at the University of Manitoba;
(3) are paying the international student differential tuition fee;
(6) are not recipients of external award funding that pays for their tuition.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are planning to transfer from a Master’s to a PhD program, or to apply to a PhD program for the Summer 2018, Fall 2018 or Winter 2019 term after April 1st, 2018, you are encouraged to apply and must apply by the April 11th deadline if you wish to be considered for the IGSS for the 2018 -2019 academic year. Even if you are unsure of what you will do, you are encouraged to submit an application.
International Students who are unsure if they are eligible to apply are encouraged to submit an application. An assessment of eligibility will be performed once your complete application is received.
