The Teaching Assistant Handbook<http://intranet.umanitoba.ca/academic_support/catl/media/UM_-_TA_eHandbook_…> was recently developed by The Centre for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning and provides practical information on a wide variety of topics related to being a teaching assistant.
The handbook includes information on human resources, what makes a good teaching assistant, preparing to teach, as well as tips regarding the first day of teaching. Other topic areas covered are: active learning strategies that can be used in lectures, seminars and labs; information on assessments, grading and providing feedback; classroom management strategies; ethical practice principles; and academic integrity.
The handbook can be accessed on The Centre’s website under the heading “Handbooks”.
