Hi all,
Some feedback from James following the council meeting Tuesday (mentioned in previous email - Monday). The following are important take-aways from the meeting that are most relevant to graduate students:
- It is paramount that, unless given permission from your PI - No student is to be expected on campus
- Stipends will not be affected for current students
- Those who are TAs and are to prepare a final lab exam for undergrads are to discuss with the professor
- Maintenance of plant material in the Agriculture greenhouse, CTC and the Point are currently being handled by Cathy (bayca(a)cc.umanitoba.ca<mailto:bayca@cc.umanitoba.ca>)
* Cathy is not responsible for any supplemental work i.e. hand-pollination, fertilizing, threshing, bagging, etc.
There is another meeting on Friday (March 27).
Again, please make sure you are in constant contact with your PI as this is an ever-changing situation.
Most importantly, remember to take care of yourself! I saw that the Active Living Centre (U of M gym) has a youtube page (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChQ3_Y8tttuMB8k3NZR0MFA) that has lots of at home workout/stretching video (along with many local businesses)… Just a click away! Hopefully, this is over sooner than later and we can get back to our normal routine! Til then, take care!
Sincerely,
Bethany
REMINDER - University will be CLOSED starting 11:59 P.M. tonight (March 23). If you have any items that you need from lab and/or offices please make sure to collect them before then.
Thanks,
Bethany

I hope everyone's still sane. Tomorrow, there is a council meeting (conference call) that I will be part of and I wanted to ask if anyone had any concerns or issues they wanted to bring up about the following:
"peoples' perspectives on providing exams, assessments to our students, and summer research"
The meeting won't be until 2:30 tomorrow but please send in your replies at 1pm the latest if you can.
Thanks and good luck with everything.

Hi all,
We just wanted to touch base with all of you regarding recent announcements made by the university. Concerns regarding the cubicles downstairs and offices with multiple people have arisen, and as per the email sent by the Dean of Graduate Studies we are not to be using them (please work from home or consult with your PI).
Please ensure that you have read and continue to read all emails sent, especially one titled "[enews] Important Information regarding COVID-19 measures” from the Dean of Graduate Studies, which directly addresses the requirements and expectations of graduate students during this time.
That being said, it is important to communicate with your PI regarding “A plan” for the days and weeks to come. If you disagree with their direction, and feel “pressured" to work in an environment that you do not feel safe please contact Claudio or Martha (both are confidential and you will not be punished for not feeling safe).
We want to stress that your safety and well-being is of the utmost importance.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this email, please feel free to contact Sam or myself.
Sincerely,
Bethany
Hi all,
Due to alerts regarding COVID-19, we have decided to cancel coffee time and other PSGSA events until further notice. Additionally, it is important to take extra measures when tidying up the grad lounge. For the health and safety of yourself and others, please make sure that we are washing our hands and dishes well and keeping all surfaces clean.
I will be purchasing lysol wipes/ sanitizer and making them available in the lounge. If you come across that we are out of soap or any other necessary cleaning products please let Sam or myself know.
Thanks,
Bethany
