Hi Anita
Hope you are doing well. I had hired an international candidate as a postdoc but now she can not come because of COVID situation. Please let me know if you know of any postdoc candidates already staying in Canada, Thanks, cheers, Kush

Subject: [Gs-department-heads] Differential Tuition Fee Change for International PhD Students
[University of Manitoba Faculty of Graduate Studies]
Dear Department Heads, Graduate Chairs, and Support Staff Contacts,
This email is to inform you that the fee structure for international PhD students is changing effective the Fall 2020 term. As of September 2020 - international PhD students will no longer be required to pay the international student differential tuition fees, and will pay the same tuition fees as Canadian/Permanent Resident PhD students in all years of the PhD program. The Registrar's Office will be updating the tuition fee information on their website (found by clicking here<http://umanitoba.ca/registrar/tuition-fees/graduate>) prior to the Fall 2020 term to reflect this new fee structure. *Please note that international Master's students tuition and differential fees remain unchanged at this time.
As international PhD students are no longer paying differential tuition fees as of the 20-21 academic year, international PhD students are no longer eligible for the IGSS and IGSES awards.
International PhD students who were awarded the IGSES and IGSS for the coming academic year have been notified of this change via an email sent to them in the Radius application system. This email was sent to all incoming or continuing international PhD students who were awarded an IGSES or IGSS in the Fall 2020, Winter 2021, and Fall 2021 terms.
We wanted to make you aware of the change in the international student PhD fee structure, and that international PhD students will no longer be eligible for the IGSS and IGSES from the Fall 2020 term onwards. We hope that you see this as good news as international PhD students will now be paying the same tuition as domestic PhD students moving forward.
If you have any questions regarding this change please contact the Graduate Awards Team at graduate.awards(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:graduate.awards@umanitoba.ca>.

Hi everyone,
I hope all is well!
As most of you are aware, the University has slowly began lifting restrictions. You should have received a PDF file “Plant Science Research Covid-19 Management Plans" from your PI regarding the guidelines that must be followed. If you did not receive it, I have attached a copy below. However, this does not mean that you are free to come and go as you wish. If you have not received permission from your PI, you are not to be in any of the buildings.
If you have received permission, it is important that you are only in the buildings/on campus during your designated time and that you fill out the mandatory survey that Bev sent upon entering and exiting https://forms.gle/gqTzEjWb2XQ3sYW96. There will be random checks. If you are caught on campus outside of your designated time you will be punished (1st violation - 2 week suspension, 2nd violation - indefinitely). You are only hurting yourself!
A few other things to note...
1) Grad offices will remain OFF LIMITS.
2) Grad lounge will remain OFF LIMITS. You cannot access the lounge for any reason (fridge, microwave, coffee). You can eat in the courtyard if you wish.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask!
Take care,
Bethany
Hi everyone,
I hope you’re all well!
James wanted me to forward you some information from the council meeting regarding TA work for the upcoming semester (See below).
For those wishing to continue with a course you have already “TAed” contact the given professor directly.
For others - Posting will likely be on JUMP in the next few weeks, so keep your eyes open for that.
If you have any questions please direct them to James.
Thanks,
Bethany

Hi all, I hope everyone is well,
There is a possibility of TAs being hired earlier for the coming fall term to accommodate the different approaches brought up in distance teaching. Although not confirmed, these approaches might include video preparations for demonstrating lab practices, preparing the plant material for these demonstrations, writing up lectures, etc.
Additionally, Martha is not sure whether or not the TA application process as well as the hiring process can be changed (ie. sped up). Normally positions on JUMP are not posted until July and applicants are given 3 weeks to accept or decline.
For students wanting to continue their previous position with the same course, please contact the professor you worked with before to let them know that your help is still available. This would at least help streamline the process once the university is able to implement changes to the application and hiring system.
Thank you,
James

Hi Claudio,
I hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy.
As you are well aware Doug's last day is Friday June 12. I am wondering if you would be so kind and send out a notice to people in the department excluding Doug, letting them know that they are welcome to do a drive by visit on Friday evening starting at 6:30. We will be in the front yard for the evening as I will invite a few close friends (that he will know about). So drive by and visit at the curb or bring a lawn chair and stay for a few minutes until the yard is too full or whatever.
I am sure there are some who would like to say goodbye and I thought this would be an opportunity to do that at a safe distance. There will be snacks and cake.
Our address is 11 Pembridge Bay.
Thank you,
Cheryl
