Subject: PSGSA Election Nomination Deadline
Good morning!
Reminder that the Plant Science Graduate Student Association (PSGSA) election nominations are due today at 12:00 PM (noon). Please email me your nominations, or your own self nomination if that is the case.
Becoming involved in the PSGSA is a great way to meet new people in our department and across the University of Manitoba, build your CV and bond with your peers. I encourage all to be involved with he PSGSA throughout their entire graduate degree program. Without the PSGSA, many events, endowment purchases and seminars would not be possible.
Best,
Nate

Subject: PSGSA Elections
Hi All!
As outlined in the Graduate Student Orientation held this morning, the Plant Science Graduate Student Association (PSGSA) elections are under way. This year everything will be done by e-mail.
The following link (https://umjanzev.wixsite.com/psgsa) is to a webpage that provides details on the duties for each position. Some of the positions, like Social Director and UMGSA reps, are filled and duties split between two individuals. In the past, other positions have been split as well.
Nominations are due this Friday (Sept 11) at 12:00 PM (noon).
You can nominate yourself. I encourage all graduate students to nominate others or themselves. Please note that if you nominate someone else, they must accept the nomination in order to run in the election. If you could CC them in the nomination e-mail, that would be great. I will also confirm their nomination with them. You can nominate for more than one position; however, you can only be nominated for one position. If you are nominated for more than one, you must pick one.
Voting is from this Monday (Sept 14) at 8:30 AM to Wednesday (Sept 16) at 4:30 PM.
All nominations and voting is to be sent to my email (ortn(a)myumanitoba.ca<mailto:ortn@myumanitoba.ca>).
I will email who is running in the election this Friday. You can only vote once for each position.
Any questions, please feel free to ask!
Best,
Nate

Subject: Welcome Back!
Hi all,
On behave of PSGSA I would like to welcome new students to the department and welcome back everyone else!
As we know, this year has been a bit chaotic and the chaos is anticipated to continue. Due to Covid-19 we cannot meet in person as we normally would at the beginning of this new semester... Together, PSGSA has decided host a virtual orientation/ welcome back meeting. This meeting will include information for new students (May and September), information regarding the upcoming PSGSA election and updates regarding the current situation around the University and department.
The meeting will be held through Teams on Wednesday, September 9th at 9:30 AM. See link below from Bev.
Additionally, Madison and I have created a "Master's Student Insider Report" (attached below). This is written by grad students for grad students, essentially it is what we wish someone would have told us when we started... This document outlines everything from our rights and responsibilities, expectations, different terms to become familiar with, resources available for students, PSGSA, etc. Some of you may notice that there is not one for PhD students, we are working on it! Stay tuned!
Please try your best to attend the Welcome Back meeting! It would be great for new students to meet fellow students and for the rest of us to see one another!
See you Wednesday!
Enjoy your long weekend!
Thanks,
Bethany
