Hi everyone,
Just a reminder to please park in the allotted spaces along the greenhouse. There are 6 spaces delineated by red lines on the building, often people are not parking within the marked space.
Thanks,

Hi all,
This e-mail is just a reminder of that the Plant Science Department is still looking for 2 volunteers to represent grad students in 2 committees related to the department’s strategic planning. Details on the committees are as follows:
Social Committee: Tasked with engaging academics, staff and students to interact on an informal level. A minimum of 2 events (online or in-person, if possible) per year. Active starting on Sept 2021
* Academic: Dr. Dilantha Fernando (3 yr term)
* Support staff: Eppie Austria (2 yr term)
* RA/PDF: TBA (2 yr term)
* Student: TBA (1 yr term)
Communications/Promotions Committee: Tasked with outreach exposure. The team will collaborate with Crystal Jorgenson in updating the website and create a newsletter to showcase the department’s activities for an external audience (I.e. growers, industry, government). People with strong website design skills are needed.
* Academic: Dr. Brian Fristensky (3 yr term)
* Support staff: Kaitlyn Pidherny (2 yr term)
* RA/PDF: TBA (2 yr term)
* Student: TBA (1 yr term)
A third committee, the Events Committee, is tasked with the organization of tours at the Morrison Research Farm and Lab Open Houses and organize at least 2 activities per year to engage growers, industry, government and public. Similarly, this group will be composed of 4 members:
* 2 academics (Dr. Claudio Stasolla for lab and Dr. Curt McCartney for field),
* 2 support staff (Stephanie Dheily for field, TBA for lab),
* but no student representation is required
PSGSA has announced recently that due to the lack of initiative, these 2 student rep positions might instead be added onto the next PSGSA election. But given the new details to these committees (especially the confirmation of only a 1 year commitment from student reps), there might be newfound interest and perhaps earlier involvement.
For further questions (or wish to volunteer!) e-mail decastr4(a)myumanitoba.ca<mailto:decastr4@myumanitoba.ca> or, they can also be addressed later today at virtual coffee with Dr. Stasolla! (meeting link should be on your MS Teams calendar)
Thank you,
PSGSA Team

Hi Rob,
Hope the field season is going well. I’m in the process of hiring a breeding/molecular biology technician for my program. This may be of interest to some of your former students or those that are approaching the completion of their degrees. Feel free to circulate if you know any current or former students who are looking for a job.

Good morning,
A reminder that any entrance/exit doors in the buildings are to remain closed.
A brick was used last night to leave the south back door of Plant Science open.
Do not prop open doors with anything to leave them open.
Thanks,
Bev
