Subject: Registration for Fall 22 & Winter 23
Hi all,
Registration for Fall and Winter terms opens July 21.
Before you can register yourself, you have to complete the appropriate registration approval form - attached.
Please return the signed form to me and I'll remove the hold that prevents you from registering without having your courses approved.
If your progress report was submitted after June 1 you will likely still have a progress report hold on your record that will also prevent you from registering. You'll have to keep checking for this hold to be removed.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Martha

· Please be sure that you review the types of awards that we offer. There is a vast difference between scholarships, fellowships & bursaries. The definitions for each award can be found here<https://umanitoba.ca/agricultural-food-sciences/student-experience/awards-a…>
· There is a wide range of awards available to Graduate Students in all Programs. The Faculty of Agricultural & Food Sciences Awards webpage (linked above) outlines all the awards available. These include: Agriculture Entrance Scholarships, Indigenous Student Awards in Agriculture, Program specific Awards, Agriculture Convocation Awards, Travel and Research Awards and External Awards in the Agriculture Industry. Please also ensure that you visit the University of Manitoba Financial Aid & Awards webpage (linked above). There is vast array of award information and opportunities from outside of the Faculty of Agriculture & Food Sciences.
· Merit based awards are awarded once the Fall Term begins. Please be aware that students are required to have their tuition funding in place to ensure that they can pay their tuition on time and prior to the tuition deadline; awards are never promised and students need to be prepared to pay their tuition in full with their own funds. If you are the recipient of an award, you will be notified via your myumanitoba email and the funds from the award are applied to the Student Fee Account on Aurora after the tuition deadline.
· Bursary applications will open on August 1 and close October 3. Students must apply through their Aurora Student Account. Every year, the University of Manitoba offers a wide-range of bursaries to both new and continuing full-time and part-time students who have a demonstrated financial need and a minimum academic standing. The average value of bursaries range in amounts from $400 to $1,000, with over $6 million awarded annually. Unlike scholarships and fellowships, bursaries are based on financial need and require an application. More information on bursaries, including important deadlines and how to apply, can be found here<https://umanitoba.ca/financial-aid-and-awards/bursaries>.

Subject: Please Circulate - New Government of Manitoba Paid Data Science Internship Program
Caution: This message was sent from outside the University of Manitoba.
Dear Martha,
The Government of Manitoba is launching a new paid Data Science internship program.
The Data Science Leaders in Training Program is an 18 month paid internship for early career data scientists and data professionals interested in pursuing a career in the public service.
This program offers professional experience and training at the intersection of data science and policy, allowing participants to put their data skills to use to positively impact the lives of Manitobans. Skills and knowledge will be developed and enhanced through three challenging work placements, under the guidance and mentorship of senior leaders and data professionals in the organization, and a variety of opportunities for classroom and hands-on training.
Interns will contribute to the development of evidence-informed policies and decisions that support government priorities by working on exciting data projects that span multiple domains and datasets. This program offers exposure to data not available in any other sector, and an opportunity to leverage data science techniques in the service of Manitobans.
We invite you to circulate this opportunity to the students in your department.
We invite anyone interested in learning more about the program to join us for a virtual 30-minute information session on Friday September 9th at 12:00 PM Central Time by clicking this link: Data Science Leaders in Training Program Information Session<https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/19%3ameeting_OWY4NjEzOGQtMjFiYS00…>.
For more information about this program, visit Manitoba.ca/ltp<https://www.manitoba.ca/govjobs/info/programs.html#LTP-DS> or apply online by September 23 through the Manitoba Government Job Opportunities Website<https://jobsearch.gov.mb.ca/search.action>.

Subject: Grad Stats Course: SOIL 7250 T02 Non-traditional Quantitative Techniques
Hi all,
We have a few more spots left. In this applied stats course, students get to work with data from their current thesis research or another study. Those who do not yet have data to work with may work on an analysis plan for their future data, in addition to experimental design and treatment layout of their planned thesis research. Students are expected to have a good background in statistics, preferably at the graduate level. Typically, students who take this course will have taken ANSC 7500 Methodology in Agricultural and Food Sciences, or an equivalent, although this in not a requirement. Knowledge of SAS will be an asset, but not a requirement.
Attached is an outline from Fall 2021. This may change to reflect the specific needs of students registered for the course.
If you have any questions, send me an email.
Thanks,
Francis
