The Data Science Leaders in Training Program is an 18 month paid internship for early career data scientists and data professionals interested in pursuing a career in the public service. This program offers professional experience and training at the intersection of data science and policy, allowing participants to put their data skills to use to positively impact the lives of Manitobans. Skills and knowledge will be developed and enhanced through three challenging work placements, under the guidance and mentorship of senior leaders and data professionals in the organization, and a variety of opportunities for classroom and hands-on training. In this applied stats course, students get to work with data from their current thesis research or another study. Those who do not yet have data to work with may work on an analysis plan for their future data, in addition to experimental design and treatment layout of their planned thesis research. Students are expected to have a good background in statistics, preferably at the graduate level. Typically, students who take this course will have taken ANSC 7500 Methodology in Agricultural and Food Sciences, or an equivalent, although this in not a requirement. Knowledge of SAS will be an asset, but not a requirement. Attached is an outline from Fall 2021. This may change to reflect the specific needs of students registered for the course. Peter B.E. McVetty Plant Breeding Scholarship in the Department of Plant Science The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize students who have achieved academic excellence in a Master's or Ph.D. program in plant breeding in the Department of Plant Science at the University of Manitoba. One or more scholarships will be offered to graduate students who: * are enrolled full-time in their second year of a Master's program, or in their second or third year of a Ph.D. program in plant breeding in the Department of Plant Science at the University of Manitoba; * have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) based on the last 60 credit hours of study; * have demonstrated achievement in plant breeding research applicable to the Canadian Prairies.
