Hello again,
I am asking you, begging you, to help me in this most crucial moment.
We need people to work the polling stations during the election on
October 17-19. I've got the schedule almost finished, but there are
still some open spots that need filling.
Please dig down into the depths of your generosity and consider whether
you can sit at a table and stroke names off a list as people vote.
There will always be two people at the polling station, so you will not
be lonely. Volunteers will be given food to eat and will have another
volunteer activity they can include on their resume.
The following times are open if you'd like to do them:
Wednesday October 17 3:30 PM to 7:00 PM
Thursday October 18 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM
Thanks,
Simon.
Hello,
Jason Kelly, president of CUPE local 3909, would like to meet with
members of the union in our department to discuss ongoing contract
negotiations. The union includes TA's, Grader/Markers, Lab
Demonstrators, Student Instructors, etc. The contract expired September
1, 2007 - these negotiations will have an impact on all grad students in
our department who do any of these jobs (as in how much you are paid).
The meeting would occur over lunch hour and food would be provided by
CUPE. If there is sufficient interest, I will schedule a time for the
meeting and send further information to you all. Please email me if you
would like to have this meeting.
Thanks,
Simon.
Just a friendly reminder that the deadline for nominations in the GSA
byelection is 4:30 PM this Friday (October 5). So if you want to run
for Vice President Internal or one of the 3 Senator positions, you'd
better print off the attached form, fill it in with 10 signatures, and
get it down to the GSA office (221 University Centre) before time runs out.
The roles and responsibilities for these positions are described in the
GSA's constitution, which can be downloaded from the GSA website,
www.umgsa.ca.
Voting will be on October 17-19 - more details to follow. If you have
any questions, please ask me.
Thanks,
Simon Neufeld

Hi all,
I just wanted to let you know that our grad.lounge shop is going ok.
Happy to hear that it has been much helpful for people especially for
those who are working late hours - but please make sure that they are
paid for immediately so that we can refill the supplies often. Now
there are more supplies available!
I would really appreciate if you could forward me your suggestions to
further improve the shop!
Thanks!

Hi everyone,
Hope you are all doing great! It is just a reminder that we are having
the PSGSA welcome BBQ today noon (Thursday, Sep 27) at the plant
science grassed space. I am sure most of the field guys will be able
to attend as well. We have veggie/meat burger, chips and pops - all
for FREE!. Drinks are sponsored by CUPE 3909 of our university
(Thanks!).
This is a wonderful opportunity to meet and welcome the newcomers to
our department and also welcoming all back to school! Hopefully it is
not going to rain; but, if it does then we have an alternative plan.
We are meeting by the green house/grassed area anyways.
See you all there!
Muthu
