Skating at the Forks!

Hello all, I am pleased to announce the first annual plant science grad students river trail skate-a-thon. We will be going skating at the Forks on Wednesday, February 11 as long as the weather stays nice and balmy. We will meet in the atrium first around 4:30 and then head to the forks for some skating and drinks afterward. I will be able to give some people rides and other people will have their vehicles so transportation shouldn't be too difficult. Please feel free to come out even if you are not a good skater (or have never skated before) as they have skates for rent at the Forks and it will be a fun chance to enjoy Winnipeg's beautiful February weather. Helmets not provided. Hope to see you there! Don

Research Fields UNRESTRICTED Categories No categories available Citizenship No citizenship available Eligibility Beginning with the 2007/2008 academic session, scholarships will be offered to recognize and reward the excellence of international graduate students pursuing Master's or Ph.D. degrees at the University of Manitoba. The scholarships will be offered to students who: (1) are international students (i.e. those in Canada on study permits) continuing full-time study in the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Manitoba in either: -the second year of a two-year Master's program, -the second year of a two-year Ph.D. program, -the second or third year of a three-year Ph.D. program, or -in the first year of a Ph.D. program after completing a Master's degree at the University of Manitoba; (2) are paying the international student tuition fee; (3) have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 over the equivalent of the last two completed years of study; (4) show great promise as researchers and as graduate students; (5) are not recipients of external funding that pays for their tuition This scholarship may be held with the UMGF and other awards offered by the University of Manitoba, but may not be held in conjunction with the International Graduate Student Entrance Scholarship (IGSES) or the International Graduate Student Bursary. Students may be considered for this scholarship in each year of eligible study. Students who are enrolled in a re-registration year are not eligible. Scholarships will only be applied against any outstanding international student tuition fee differential. Values $2000-$4000 Scholarships will be offered until available funds are exhausted. MB Horticulturists Graduate Scholarship

Manitoba Horticulturists Graduate Scholarship The Manitoba Horticulturists Graduate Scholarship was established in 1990 to promote the development of horticulture in Manitoba by supporting horticulture research. A $1000 scholarship award is available to a graduate student at the University of Manitoba who is conducting applied or basic horticulture research. This award shall be granted to a promising and deserving Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident who: C has successfully completed, with high standing, one year of a Master's or Ph.D. program at the University of Manitoba; C is registered for a second year in a Master's program or for a second or third year in a Ph.D. program at the University of Manitoba; C has demonstrated achievement in horticulture research applicable to the Canadian prairies. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Applicants are to submit the following documents to Martha Blouw, Department of Plant Science (222 Agriculture Building): C a covering letter describing: a) the status and progress of your research program and coursework; b) the value of your research project to horticulture on the Canadian prairies; C an abstract of your research project; C a copy (photocopy is acceptable) of the transcript of your academic record or University of Manitoba student history. Application Deadline: February 27, 2015
