Plant Science Graduate Student Travel Awards - Apply now

Dr. Helgason Travel Award ($1925) Dr. Morrison Travel Award ($2000) Dr. Lamari Travel Award ($1675) Dr. Clark Travel Award ($1050) These awards provide funding for students who will be attending a scientific meeting in a plant science related area and will be presenting the results of their research at the meeting (poster or oral presentation). These awards will be offered to one or more graduate students who: * have completed at least one year of an M.Sc. or Ph.D. program delivered by the Department of Plant Science at the University of Manitoba; * have achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.0 (or equivalent) based on the last 60 credit hours; * will be attending a scientific meeting in a plant science related area and will be presenting the results of their research at the meeting (poster or oral presentation); * have demonstrated research ability based on the abstract submitted and the proposed research results to be presented at the meeting. Funding must be used within the 12 month period following the date that the award recipients are announced. Recipients graduating within the 12 month period following the date of the award offer must use the funding no later than six months from the date of convocation. Recipients may not hold more than one travel award offered through the Department of Plant Science within the same calendar year. Selection of the recipients will be based on: * academic performance; * letters of recommendation; * the quality of the abstract submitted and of the proposed research results to be presented; * the potential value of the meeting to the student's development. The award recipient will submit receipts for travel, registration, hotel and food expenses (based on current University of Manitoba per diem rates). Expenses will be reimbursed up to the current maximum value of the award. Graduate Student Mental Health Initiative

Hi all, The University of Manitoba Grad Student Association is looking for input from graduate students regarding mental health and the related services that are available on campus. The Vice President Academic, Roxie Koohgoli, has provided us with a list of topics to reflect on: 1. What they currently know about general mental health 2. How they deal with mental health 3. Concerns about resources available to them 4. Negative and positive things which effect their mental health 5. Things that they would like to see changed by the university 6. Anything else that falls underneath the mental health spectrum The confidentiality of your response will of course be respected, so if you have any thoughts or opinions you might like the UMGSA to hear regarding any of these topics feel free to email them directly to Roxie at <vpa(a)umgsa.org>. Print Settings (Graduate) Willy Wiebe Graduate Fellowship in Agricultural and Food Sciences Oct 1, 2019 11:30 PM Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences Awards (Graduate) Willy Wiebe Graduate Fellowship in Agricultural and Food Sciences<https://universityofmanitoba.desire2learn.com/d2l/lms/dropbox/user/folder_s…> Due October 1 at 11:30 PM Through a testamentary gift from Willy Wiebe, a farmer from the rural municipality of Rhineland in Manitoba, an endowment fund of $450,000 has been established at the University of Manitoba to support a graduate fellowship in breeding and research in Canadian Western Red Spring Wheat. The fellowship, valued at the available annual income, will be offered to a student who: (1) is enrolled as a full-time student in the Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Manitoba in a Master's or Ph.D. program in Agricultural and Food Sciences; (2) as a Master's student, achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 in the last 60 credit hours completed in their undergraduate program or, as a Ph.D. student, achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.75 in their Master's program; (3) demonstrates an interest in and potential for research; (4) has identified an advisor in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences who is willing to support a project in breeding and research in Canadian Western Red Spring Wheat. The fellowship cannot be held with another award valued at or higher than the current level of the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship that is offered at the recipient's level of study (Master's or Ph.D. level). Applicants will be required to submit a completed application form on or before the designated deadline date. Application forms will be made available from the Office of the Dean in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences. The fellowship can be renewed once by the same recipient in a Master's program, and twice for the same recipient in a Ph.D. program. The fellowship recipient will receive a renewal provided they are making satisfactory progress in their program. In years when a renewal of the award is made, no new award will be offered. If, in the judgment of the selection committee, no applicants meet the award criteria in a given year, the award will not be made in that year. The selection committee will be the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences Awards Committee. This agreement may be amended by the mutual consent of the donor (or designate) and the University of Manitoba. All such amendments shall be in writing. In the absence of the donor (or designate), and providing all reasonable efforts have been made to consult, the Board of Governors of the University of Manitoba has the right to modify the terms of this award if, because of changed conditions, it becomes necessary to do so. Such modification shall conform as closely as possible to the expressed intention of the donor in establishing the award.
