Hi everyone! This is a reminder that we will be having a Chinese New Year celebration and lunch for plant science grad students on Friday, February 16th at noon! The PSGSA will be ordering in a variety of dishes for everyone to enjoy! We ask that you sign up in advance, so we can predict food ordering. If you wish to participate, we ask that you pay $5 to help cover the cost of food. A sign up sheet will be hanging in the grad students lounge, or you may email me (ammetera(a)myumanitoba.ca) to sign up. Please note, the deadline to sign up is Tuesday, February 13th at 4:00 pm. Manitoba Horticulturists Graduate Scholarship

Manitoba Horticulturists Graduate Scholarship The Manitoba Horticulturists Graduate Scholarship was established in 1990 to promote the development of horticulture in Manitoba by supporting horticulture research. A $1000 scholarship award is available to a graduate student at the University of Manitoba who is conducting applied or basic horticulture research. This award shall be granted to a promising student who: C has successfully completed, with high standing, one year of a Master's or Ph.D. program at the University of Manitoba; C is registered for a second year in a Master's program or for a second or third year in a Ph.D. program at the University of Manitoba; C has demonstrated achievement in horticulture research applicable to the Canadian prairies. Preference will be given to a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident. APPLICATION PROCEDURE Applicants are to submit the following documents to Martha Blouw, Department of Plant Science (222 Agriculture Building): C a covering letter describing: a) the status and progress of your research program and coursework; b) the value of your research project to horticulture on the Canadian prairies; C an abstract of your research project; C a copy (photocopy is acceptable) of the transcript of your academic record or University of Manitoba student history. Chinese New year party for Plant science students

Dear All, Our annual Chinese NY Party will be hold on the Friday after next week (February 16th 2018) in Room 218. We will have our potluck at 12 pm (noon) most food would be Chinese dishes but you are welcome to bring your own dishes as well. The sign up sheet would be in the graduate student lounge. $5 would be charged if you just like to try. The money would be used for our student activities. If you brought some dishes, it would be great if you could labelled what may contain (gluten/meat...) for students who are allergic/vegetarian etc. I think everyone has been working hard for a year (or a few years) so it’s a good time to take a short break and try some food with us. We wish everyone would join us and see you at the party! Let us know if you had any questions.
