We have two weeks to fill the hamper. Please see the list of items required and check off the items you are able to donate. There are two hamper gift boxes located in Grad offices 147 and 148-150. I know many of you are located in labs, so please come by your office space to see what you can bring! This was a previous tradition of the PSGSA, that I thought would be good to revive! Our department has invited Professor Craig Pearson (http://www.sustainable.unimelb.edu.au/content/people/craig_pearson <http://www.sustainable.unimelb.edu.au/content/people/craig_pearson>) to deliver a special seminar to our Faculty in March. Dr. Pearson resides in Australia and is the Director of the Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute, his personal areas of expertise include agricultural and environmental policy, strategic planning, grassland agronomy and city greenbelt policy. A committee has been formed to overlook and plan Dr. Pearson's activities during his stay in our great city and /they are looking for a graduate student representative/. The visit is tentatively planned for March 19-23, 2012 which means that there will be some overlap with our Graduate Symposium (March 23-24, 2012). /This is a great opportunity to get involved with our departmental committees and network with Dr. Pearson/. Perhaps some of you are interested in studying down under! You would be involved in arranging his schedule, planning activites etc. The committe is currently comprised of Dr. Martin Entz and Dr. Yvonne Lawley, and possibly you! As you may have heard, graduate students in our department (us!) will be hosting the 28th Annual Plant Science Graduate Student Symposium this winter! It will be a 2-day conference with Plant Science grad students from the U of Saskatchewan, North Dakota State University, the U of Minnesota, and our university. Sarah Braman and I have been elected to organize the symposium. However, we need your help! There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in the organisation of the symposium: plan social events, help with the fundraising, organize the closing ceremony, organize the symposium itself, etc. If you are interested in helping with the organization, please come to our 1st meeting! The symposium organizing committee (only Sarah and I, so far) will have its 1st meeting this Thursday, October 27th, at 2pm, in room 218.
