Last week Iris sent out an email about the annual charity BBQ, to be held on August 7. We will be raising money for the Spence Neighbourhood Children's garden. The social committee has started organizing the bbq, but since it is a big job we will need help from everyone. I know that everyone is busy in the summer, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Below is a list of committees you can get involved with, but we will also need people to stick around at the end of the bbq to help clean up. I hope everyone's summer is going well so far. Its time to start getting ready for our annual charity bbq, this year it will be held on August 7. For those of you who don't know, every year the Plant Science graduate students organize a charity bbq to raise money for a local charity. Thanks Muthu --------------- Four appointments for post-doctoral Research Associates and two scholarships for PhD students are available on a project funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) and a number of Industry partners (Department of Environment and Conservation, Western Power, Minerals and Energy Research Institute of Western Australia, Alcoa World Alumina, Worsley Alumina, BHP Billiton Ravensthorpe Nickel, Aztech and Tiwest). The ARC project will be executed at the University of Western Australia and Murdoch University. The Research Associate positions are in the areas of plant ecophysiology (position 2413), plant genetics and breeding (position 2414), plant molecular biology (position 2415) and plant pathology / molecular biology (position 2415). The successful candidate will join a team working in the area of flowering and adaptation in wheat. The project will investigate mutations of the Photoperiod (Ppd) genes in bread wheat to understand how combinations of gain and loss of function mutations on the three wheat genomes provide variation in flowering time. As well as investigating the specific role of the Ppd genes the project will address how gene expression on the three wheat genomes is coordinated to control plant development.
