South West Entrance to Plant Science will be closed 11:30am to 5:00pm today

Good morning , The contractor will need to temporarily shutdown the south west entrance to the building today from 11:30 to 5:00 so they can remove the wood siding above the entrance. The entrance will be back open for use after 5:00pm today. The contractor will place signs on both the inside and outside faces of the doors letting people know to use the north west entrance. They south exit door will still be available for use as an emergency exit. Carman Station Covid Reminders

Hi all, PSGSA believes it is important to reiterate the department’s expectations from us students regarding the recent Covid situation out in the Carman research station. The following items might have been circulated in your respective labs already but if not, please pay attention: * the Carman station is closed until Monday (May 31)<outlook-data-detector://1> but starting tomorrow (May 27) at 7:30 am, Emergency field work is permitted - but only for technical staff (no summer students/graduate students/postdocs/research associates) * examples of "Emergency work" include scouting for infestation, spraying, etc.) * Staff performing emergency work are expected to follow the same precautions already in place: 2m distancing, proper PPE (3-ply masks), surface sanitation, and symptom monitoring. There cannot be any interaction with peers. * Only 1 person per vehicle is allowed, whether it’s personal or the department’s. Ensure that vehicles are appropriately fueled in Winnipeg prior to the trip. The main takeaway for students is that we are not allowed to be at the station until Monday, so be sure to communicate with your technicians if your plots do require emergency attention. I have been made aware of a second positive COVID-19 case of a second individual who has attended the Ian M. Morrison Research Farm in Carman in the past week. Public Health leads all investigations into positive cases and identifies close contacts. As this work isn't complete, we do not currently have a full understanding of the number of individuals who may be considered close contacts and must isolate. I am therefore making the decision that as of Tuesday May 25, 23:59, the Ian M. Morrison Research Farm at Carman will be closed until at least Sunday May 30. I recognize that this will cause real hardship to researchers and to graduate students at a critical time in the agricultural research cycle, and so I do not make this decision easily. However, the health and wellbeing of staff and students must be prioritized. Anyone (faculty, staff or student) who has been at the Ian M. Morrison Research Farm at Carman since May 10 must work remotely from home until Monday May 31 and monitor assiduously for symptoms of COVID-19 (https://www.gov.mb.ca/asset_library/en/coronavirus/covid19_screening_checkl…). It is important that any potential for spread of the virus is not merely shifted to a Fort Garry lab or to the Point. Therefore, stay home and self-monitor. FW: New Window project placement schedule

A reminder of the Window project placement schedule and the room prep that needs to happen prior to the new window install date. Also, for those approved to work evenings/weekends, it is acceptable to be in the building during the evening/weekend hours as long as you do not enter the room where window work/asbestos abatement is occurring. The area outside of the construction fence in the West side courtyard/greenspace can be used by the buildings occupants. DO NOT enter the inside of the fenced area of the construction site! General overview of the schedule is: * Mobilize May 10 * Rm 113 window mock-up week of May 17 * Mock-up window testing tentatively May 26 * Tackle all of the west elevation first and then move to east elevation * Rm 210 work and window - week of August 23 (2 weeks) * Completion October 6 Reminder that all items within the 4 to 5 foot area in front of the exterior window wall in each room should be removed prior to the room's date identified in the schedule. For example all items within the area of the window in room 113 will need to be moved prior to May 17th.
