Good morning to all,
The Fire Department is conducting inspections around campus and they recently went through the Seed Processing building.
According to the EHSO's safety Coordinator, there is a re-occurring issue in the building with the door to the electrical room being left open. Due to the high dust levels in the building, this poses a fire and explosion hazard when dust accumulates on the transformer.
A number of actions are needed immediately:
- Remove combustible material from electrical room.
- Remove accumulated dust found during inspection.
- Correct all defects that interfere with the operation of closures in fire separation(s).
- Fire door to electrical room should never be left open. We will ask Physical Plant to install self closure devise to ensure door is closed when not in use.
I am asking that everyone takes their responsibility and make sure that such incident does not occur again in the future. This is about your own and everyone else's safety.
Thank you,
Fouad
