Subject: Webinar: Understanding Stimulated Brillouin Scattering with a Multiphysics Approach in COMSOL® (4/6)
Reply-To: Jenna Craig <jenna(a)comsol.com<mailto:jenna@comsol.com>>
Dear Colleague,
On Thursday, April 6, IEEE and COMSOL will give a free webinar on "Understanding Stimulated Brillouin Scattering with a Multiphysics Approach in COMSOL®." Details and registration are available below.
In this webinar, we present a multiphysics approach for simulating SBS (stimulated Brillouin scattering) in the COMSOL® software. First, optical whispering gallery modes are predicted. Next, they are combined with the photoelastic tensor to estimate the 3D electrostrictive stress distribution, which is used to simulate 11-GHz acoustical phonons. Finally, the SBS gain is calculated by integrating the overlap modes between the pump photons and acoustic phonons. The results are compared to experimental data (Hansuek et al., 2012), which reports Q factors approaching 875 million. This webinar includes a live demo and Q&A session.
Speakers:
Carl Meinhart, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, University of California - Santa Barbara / CEO, Numerical Design, Inc.
Mads J. Herring Jensen, Technical Product Manager, COMSOL.
Live Presentation - Thursday, April 9, 2017 2:00 p.m. EDT.

Subject: Webinar: Using Acoustic Technologies for Leak Detection in Fluid-Filled Pipes (3/23)
Reply-To: Jenna Craig <jenna(a)comsol.com<mailto:jenna@comsol.com>>
Dear Colleague,
Today, March 23, ASME and COMSOL will give a free webinar on "Using Acoustic Technologies for Leak Detection in Fluid-Filled Pipes." Details and registration are available below.
The prediction of speed of sound is important to accurately locate leaks in buried pipe networks, such as water mains. Sound propagation is influenced by parameters such as pipe materials and dimensions, which are network dependent. Knowing these parameters is critical for leak detection using acoustic technologies.
In this webinar, guest speaker Sebastien Perrier of Echologics Engineering will discuss how they implemented a finite element simulation framework using COMSOL Multiphysics(r) and deployed it using apps. You will also get a live demonstration of how to model the acoustical behavior of pipes and estimate the variation in speed of sound. At the end of this webinar, there will be a Q&A session during which you can ask questions.
Speakers:
Sebastien Perrier, R&D Acoustical Scientist, Echologics Engineering.
Valerio Marra, Marketing Director, COMSOL.
