Dear Colleague,
Today, April 13, AIChE and COMSOL will give a free webinar on "Studying Multiphase Flow and Liquid-Liquid Extraction in COMSOL Multiphysics®." Details and registration are available below.
Liquid-liquid extraction is a separation method that is often used in the chemical, food, and cosmetics industries. The principle is to extract compounds from a first phase into a second phase in which the two phases are immiscible. In this webinar, you will learn how to set up and solve the different types of two-phase flow problems for both 2D and 3D models in the COMSOL Multiphysics® software. You can ask questions at the end of the webinar during a Q&A session.
Live Presentation - Thursday, April 13, 2017 2:00 p.m. EDT.
To register, visit: http://comsol.com/c/5eye.

Dear Colleague,
On Thursday, April 13, AIChE and COMSOL will give a free webinar on "Studying Multiphase Flow and Liquid-Liquid Extraction in COMSOL Multiphysics®." Details and registration are available below.
Liquid-liquid extraction is a separation method that is often used in the chemical, food, and cosmetics industries. The principle is to extract compounds from a first phase into a second phase in which the two phases are immiscible.
We present two different models of two-phase flow involving immiscible liquids: surface-tracking and dispersed multiphase flow models. The surface-tracking methods can be used for mechanistic studies of droplet coalescence and breakup as well as for understanding the transport and equilibriums across the phase interface in detail. The dispersed multiphase flow model can be used to describe the flow and mass transfer between phases at a larger scale to design equipment for liquid extraction. The distribution of droplet size, coalescence, and droplet breakup mechanisms can also be included in dispersed multiphase flow models. In this webinar, you will learn how to set up and solve the different types of two-phase flow problems for both 2D and 3D models. You can ask questions at the end of the webinar during a Q&A session.

Dear Colleague,
Today, April 6, IEEE and COMSOL will give a free webinar on "Understanding Stimulated Brillouin Scattering with a Multiphysics Approach in COMSOL®." Details and registration are available below.
In this webinar, we present a multiphysics approach for simulating SBS (stimulated Brillouin scattering) in the COMSOL® software. First, optical whispering gallery modes are predicted. Next, they are combined with the photoelastic tensor to estimate the 3D electrostrictive stress distribution, which is used to simulate 11-GHz acoustical phonons. Finally, the SBS gain is calculated by integrating the overlap modes between the pump photons and acoustic phonons. The results are compared to experimental data (Hansuek et al., 2012), which reports Q factors approaching 875 million. This webinar includes a live demo and Q&A session.
Speakers:
Carl Meinhart, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, University of California – Santa Barbara / CEO, Numerical Design, Inc.
Mads J. Herring Jensen, Technical Product Manager, COMSOL.
