On Saturday, March 5, the Theatre Program has been offered the opportunity to have a presentation or workshop with Troy Hourie, a noted professional set designer who graduated from the University of Manitoba Faculty of Architecture in the mid 90's. He has designed and taught extensively throughout North America. If you are interested, please sign up to demonstrate your interest on the sheet posted in Rm140 (outer shop). Further details will be provided as things get locked in. NOTE: If you are involved in the Q to Q for House of Bernarda Alba you will not be able to attend.

Please see the attached Strindbergfest Press Release or visit the web site at Masterplaywrightfest.com <http://www.masterplaywrightfest.com/> A Dream Play is Strindberg’s expressionist masterpiece, one of his most important and imaginative works, and his own personal favourite. The gods send their daughter, Agnes, to earth to seek the reasons for mankind’s sorrow, and she encounters a procession of hopeless romantics, thwarted saints, and twisted grotesques through the course of the play. Like Strindberg, we want to re-create in the theatre the experience of vivid dreaming and nightmare, and we do so with puppets, mutant hybrids (half human, half puppet), imagistic magic, dance, an original musical score, traditional Chinese music, and for a script, the evocative adaptation Caryl Churchill wrote for the National Theatre of Great Britain in 2005-thus a play by this year’s Master Playwright re-envisioned by last year’s Master Playwright. “…Everything can happen, everything is possible and probable. Time and place do not exist; the imagination spins, weaving new patterns on a flimsy basis of reality: a mixture of memories, experiences, free associations, absurdities and improvisations.” - August Strindberg The Co-directors for this production are Chris Johnson and Tim Bandfield. University of Manitoba Theatre Professor Chris Johnson's most recent directing credits include Fool for Love for the 2010 Winnipeg Fringe Festival and last year's BHTC premier production of Mike Bell’s Headspace. Tim Bandfield taught a puppetry course for the Theatre Program at U of M in the fall of 2010. Tim was most recently involved in A Fish's Wish for the 2010 Winnipeg Fringe Festival and in last season’s BHTC production of Headspace. Tickets are $15 for Adults, $12 for Students and Seniors. Paid On Campus Acting Gigs

Dear Theatre Students, We are requesting the participation of up to 10 student actors in a study looking at the characteristics of maternal speech. You do NOT need to have real-world experience with children to participate. The study would require about 1 hour of your time, and would involve your reading two series of sentences, one as if you were addressing an adult and one as if you were addressing an infant. You would be compensated $50 for your participation in the study. Your decision to participate or not will have no consequences for your academic progress – the Theatre department will not be informed about your choice to participate or not. This research is approved by the Psychology-Sociology Research Ethics Board. Museum of Man and Nature Needs Volunteer Actors

DIRECT ANY QUESTIONS TO THE CONTACT BELOW. DO NOT REPLY TO THIS LIST. The Manitoba Museum is looking for volunteer actors to add color and character to our Cosmomania exhibit. All actors will receive plenty of exposure, publicity, some free passes to the Museum and to our Yuri's Night event. It's a great chance to practice your craft and have a lot of fun doing it! Cosmomania Actor Time required: minimum 1 x 3-hour shift per week from Feb 4th, 2011 through April 17th, 2011, plus additional rehearsal time in advance of first shift (probably 1 x 3 hour shift) Job Description: The actor will take on the role of a character in the Cosmomania exhibit which celebrates the past 50 years of space exploration. Each character is set in a particular time period of spaceflight history, and each has a particular perspective on the "space race" or event in question. The actor will interact in character with visitors, asking them prompting questions and giving them a feel for the historic time period and the significance of the event. Some costuming will be provided by the museum as appropriate. Actors will also be able to direct visitors to basic museum amenities like restrooms and food services, and be able to answer some basic questions about the exhibit (based on briefing provided by the Museum).
