Auditions Start Today

Auditions for the last noon hour show of the season start today: The New Testament, A Dark comedy by Neil La Bute Directed by: Bill Kerr and Matthew Lagacé 1 female role, 2 male roles Auditions in the Cowie Studio. Audition times: Wednesday Feb 9th 4:30 - 6:30 Thursday Feb 10th 4:30 - 6:30 Friday Feb 11th 3:00 - 5:00 Performance Dates: March 22nd, 23rd, 24th The New Testament by Neil LaBute is a comedy about the difficulty of producing theatre. The Producer and the Writer have met at a restaurant to fire an actor who has been wrongfully cast in the role of Jesus Christ. The problem is that the Actor is Chinese and the Writer doesn’t believe this guy from Indonesia, or Korea, or wherever, fits the bill.

Never Forget (To Laugh) Susan Nisbet (BHTC Alumni Extraordinaire!) passed away this past November and a group of people who were greatly affected by her wisdom, humour and humility have gathered to present an evening of merriment in her honour. Part of the proceeds from this show will go to the Great Hall Theatre Fund and HYTES, two charities Susan was very passionate about. Susan lived life to the fullest. Paralysis caused by a degenerative neuro-muscular disorder could not stop Susan from achieving and over-achieving. In November of 2007 Susan first noticed symptoms of what was eventually diagnosed as "multi-focal motor neuropathy with conductive blocking". By October 2008 Susan was confined to a wheelchair and by December of that year was no longer able to breathe on her own. Despite these new challenges, Susan went back to University in the Spring of 2009 and graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Arts (with distinction) in October 2009, having maintained an A average throughout her University years. Susan began her career as an amateur comedian in April 2009. The highlight of her career in comedy was her appearance at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival in April of 2010. Set Construction Calls

Set Construction Calls: Feb 7-13, see sign up sheets for specific dates and time. Experience not required. Set call sign up sheets for the House of Bernarda Alba build have gone up in Rm 140 University College. You can sign up for as many shifts as you like. On the weekend calls you can sign up for both the morning and afternoon calls or just one. Once you have signed up, make sure that you pickup your confirmation sheet in the Production Office, Rm139 University College. This is one of the last chances to get you production credit hours in!

Please see the attached Strindbergfest Press Release or visit the web site at Masterplaywrightfest.com <http://www.masterplaywrightfest.com/> A Dream Play is Strindberg’s expressionist masterpiece, one of his most important and imaginative works, and his own personal favourite. The gods send their daughter, Agnes, to earth to seek the reasons for mankind’s sorrow, and she encounters a procession of hopeless romantics, thwarted saints, and twisted grotesques through the course of the play. Like Strindberg, we want to re-create in the theatre the experience of vivid dreaming and nightmare, and we do so with puppets, mutant hybrids (half human, half puppet), imagistic magic, dance, an original musical score, traditional Chinese music, and for a script, the evocative adaptation Caryl Churchill wrote for the National Theatre of Great Britain in 2005-thus a play by this year’s Master Playwright re-envisioned by last year’s Master Playwright. “…Everything can happen, everything is possible and probable. Time and place do not exist; the imagination spins, weaving new patterns on a flimsy basis of reality: a mixture of memories, experiences, free associations, absurdities and improvisations.” - August Strindberg The Co-directors for this production are Chris Johnson and Tim Bandfield. University of Manitoba Theatre Professor Chris Johnson's most recent directing credits include Fool for Love for the 2010 Winnipeg Fringe Festival and last year's BHTC premier production of Mike Bell’s Headspace. Tim Bandfield taught a puppetry course for the Theatre Program at U of M in the fall of 2010. Tim was most recently involved in A Fish's Wish for the 2010 Winnipeg Fringe Festival and in last season’s BHTC production of Headspace. Tickets are $15 for Adults, $12 for Students and Seniors.
