Downtown food, cycling tour attracts over 50 people Downtown BIZ initiative combines sightseeing, local restaurants CBC News<http://www.cbc.ca/news/credit.html>| Posted: Jun 19, 2013 8:40 PM CT Winnipeg’s first-ever restaurant bicycle tour attracted over 50 people Wednesday evening. The tour, organized by the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, took the cyclists on a seven-restaurant tour of downtown. The massive group could be seen moving from the legislative building to The Forks and through the Exchange District. Stops included the Promenade Café, Don Pedros and Cakeology. Participants were given a tour of the areas they were cycling in and many stopped to snap photos. The five-hour event, dubbed A Moveable Feast, was the first of its kind in the city and cost $30 to participate in. "Remarkably Netherlands and Denmark were inseparable at the top of the table after assessing daily cycling levels, cycle tourism, advocacy activity, bicycle sales and cyclists' safety. Countries in the south and east of Europe showed they have a lot of potential for improvement. ECF Cycling Barometer Project Manager Chloe Mispelon said 'The main purpose of launching the ECF Cycling Barometer today is to get people talking about international comparisons in cycling... Join APBP for an examination of the large national databases available to us and how they can be queried to extract data on cycling and walking in our communities. This webinar will provide a user-friendly, 101-level overview of the National Household Travel Survey and the American Community Survey, including a detailed description of the data relevant to bicycle and pedestrian trips to be found in each data set; how to use the NHTS Table Designer Tool and the U.S. Census Factfinder website to extract information and build a profile of your community; and a discussion of the limitations and caveats of these tools. The session includes a case study from Portland, Oregon, that shows how these data can be used to build support for investments in cycling and walking. Cycling Update - from last night's Bombers Pre-Season Opener

Well – without a doubt – AT was the IDEAL form of transportation last night! >From my observations: Bike Valet: - Was in a temporary location due to construction / set up challenges. - I estimate between 250-300 bikes ‘checked in’ to Valet when I stopped by - There was a bit of a line up – that moved fast - It was almost at capacity at 6:30 Permanent Bike Parking: - There are ~ 400 permanent bike ‘U’s in clusters surrounding the entire building - Every ‘U’ had at least 2 bikes locked up – in every cluster ~ 800 bikes - Railings / Fencing: - Tons of bikes were locked to railings and fencing - as the Bike Valet and U’s were full. - ~ ? 400 . . . and at one point – in early discussions – many thought 300 bike parking spots were too many! Huge kudos to Liz Peters (CAA) who biked 12km and checked in at the Valet – am sure she was home before the drivers or transit riders were!
