Greetings, If you're downtown this Wednesday afternoon, come by Albert St in the Exchange District for some Car Free Day celebrations. Activities start at noon, and run until 5pm. Come play some street hockey, take part in the track stand competition and car free trivia contest or play a game of chess on the giant on-the-street chess board. Visitors will also be invited to check out our mini 'park' space, a parking spot converted to greenspace for the day by Urban Eatin Gardeners Coop. Car Free Day is rain or shine - and if it rains, we'll be giving away a limited supply of umbrellas! Hope to see you there! Save our Seine - Invitation to treen planting Sept 11

Save Our Seine (SOS) invites you to a tree planting on Saturday, Sept. 11 in Old St. Boniface across from the IKO site, at the end of Rue Deschambault. About 100 native trees will be planted to help restore a tree covered area that had to be removed for a major soil clean up project. More details can be found in the poster below. The Effect of Light Rail Transit on Body Mass Index and Physical Activity Background: The built environment can constrain or facilitate physical activity. Most studies of the health consequences of the built environment face problems of selection bias associated with confounding effects of residential choice and transportation decisions. This presentation will give an overview of issues related to intersection design and geometry, and provide guidance for building intersections that slow speeds, reduce pedestrian crossing distance and reduce conflicts. Related issues will be presented, such as driver visibility and curb radii, as well as treatments that can be used to improve intersection geometry, such as curb extensions and pedestrian islands. Participants will be able to use this information to better design new intersections and retrofit existing intersections to better accommodate the needs of pedestrians and other road users.
