Dear All.
Today we have released new test versions of both EpiData Manager
(1.4.3.2) and EpiData EntryClient (1.4.3.1).
This release has two major focus points:
1) Handling the case where two users/programs tries to open the same file.
2) Make forms/windows behave uniformly in regards to storing position &
size, and closing using shortcuts.
In addition a number of minor issue have been fixed and added:
With regards to (1) we have implemented a new principle to handle the
case where two programs wants to access
the same file simultaneously. This is done by maintaining a lock file
(taking the name of the project file and
adding a .lock as suffix), which contains the locking information. Keep
in mind that this does not prevent
two users from overwriting the same project file, but the programs have
a much better chance of detecting a
possible problem before it even arises.
We have tested the lock file system extensively and found it more
reliable than the current method, which
basically just checks the timestamp of the project. However since it is
a very new feature some issues may
still exist so if you experience any problems please report the problems
on this mailing list or to the
bugtracker:
http://www.epidata.info/flyspray/
The complete list of changes
Both programs:
* All forms can be closed using ESC, and positions & sizes are kept on
close.
* Added a shortcut to browse data (Ctrl + D or Cmd + D)
* The list of recent files is kept up-to-date, even if both programs are
opened at the same time.
* A short message is given when copying the version information to
clipboard.
Manager:
* Changed shortcut for "Extend Page" (Ctrl + Enter, Cmd + Enter)
* Default field length for Integer field changed to 1 (was 2)
* Other minor text changes in reports.
EntryClient:
* Added shortcut to Print and Print With Data.
Please report comments and errors on this list, including version of the
software in which you found the error.
The software is available from : http://www.epidata.dk/testing.php
If no major errors or bugs are reported the version 1.4.3 will replace
the current public download version.

Dear Vivek.
Can you try to download the 32-bit (standard) version of Manager and
EntryClient and install them also and see if you get the same problems
with them.

I have just tried to install EpiData Manager and EntryClient on a
preview edition of Windows 8.1.
They both installed with success and ran without any issues.
Unfortunately we do not have any edition of Windows 8
to test on, so if there are other users who have tested the programs on
Windows 8 I would like some
feedback.

Torsten Christiansen.

Hi.
All new users of the flyspray bugtracker must be approved by an admin
before they may log into the system. We do this to prevent unwanted spam
which easily can flood the entire system quickly.
I have approved the pending users and you should be able to login now.

Dear All,
I just downloaded the latest version of the EpiData Manager x64 version on my Win8 64bit System. When I tried to sun it, I received an error
"Ordinal 353 Could not be located in Dynamic Link Library C:\Prorgram Files\Tortoisehg\ssleay32.dll"
I tried this using both Standalone as well as install-able EpiData Manager versions (both 64 bit).
Any suggestions would be helpful.

Hello everybody,
I'm working with the 1.4.2 Manager version since 1 week. I found some
limitations to create a structure for a data base (it's the first one I
do). For example, I can't put on a menu with options for every field near
to the question visible in the Entry data version. So, I must choose
between an up window or an information box, but I can't see both at the
same time when the Entry data version ist running.
Moreover, I don't know (or I don't find) how to inscript commands before
document, and what are all the possible commands.
Cause of this, finally I've began using the raw document (I opened the
epx.file in a text processor like Notepad++ or gedit) and work in this way.
But my problem now is that I don't know enough commands to use, and I don't
find any internet document containing explanations about Epidata commands
for the .epx files (only for old versions with checking mode).
Someone can help me?
Thanks in advance.

In the latest release of EpiData, the SPSS export has one remaining problem, but the workaround is very simple.
The xxxx.sps file should be edited in a plain text editor to correct the line beginning with FREE
Here is what Epidata has in the xxxx.sps file:
SET DECIMAL=dot.
DATA LIST
FILE = "/path/file.txt"
ENCODING="UTF8"
FREE {("|")} <---- this is the problem line
RECORDS = 1
It should be
SET DECIMAL=dot.
DATA LIST
FILE = "/Users/charlesknightsbridge/Data/BRFSS/brfss.2013-09-14.2.txt"
ENCODING="UTF8"
FREE ("|") <---- remove the braces
RECORDS = 1
That is, remove { and } from the line that starts with FREE. That is change FREE {("|")} to FREE ("|")
Oddly enough, if you use the open source software PSPP, you do not have to make this change, but it will work either way.
Also take note that the delimiter used for the data file (xxxx.txt) is a vertical bar (|). If you might have a vertical bar inside a text field in Epidata, the import into SPSS or PSPP will fail. That would be a very unusual character to have in a text field anyway.

Dear all
A number of issues have been reported on the list since the release of
version 1.4.2 of EntryClient and Manager. The following issues have been
settled.
Both programs:
* Keyboard Shortcuts and Introduction documents are now placed on the
computer and links to the net are indicated as such.
* Install and running om Mac computer should be fixed now.
* Clear link to the wiki (such that we can start adding information on
the wiki).
Manager:
* Double Entry Validation works without field matching criteria
* On import of Stata 13 files a message is given (use saveold command in
Stata13)
* Enhancements (bug fix) of export to SPSS
* Opdated reports:
- All reports (document) should now use system date setting from the
local pc
- Project description now contains dates of changes for structure,
data and metadata
* Prepare Double Entry:
- An IDNUM field (autoincrement) is converteret to Integer and made
"MUST ENTER "
- More explanations if the created file cannot be saved.
* Changed Field Properties, such that current value label is found under
"edit"
to access all value labels use alt+v
* Import is now a fixed menu point under File Menu
* other minor issues. (spelling errors, visual details)
EntryClient:
* When searching with Ctrl+F or Ctrl+L the default string search is now
"contains" and
the search is NOT case sensitive.
* Bugfix for error making field length too short for all contents
* Other bugfix, e.g. on shortcuts transferred from a form to another,
e.g. on browse data.
The version of this test is 1.4.3. Please report comments and errors on
this list, including version of the software in which you found the error.
The software is available from : Http://www.epidata.dk/testing.php
If no major errors or bugs are reported the version 1.4.3 will replace
the current public download version.

Dear All,
I just downloaded the latest version of the EpiData Manager x64 version on my Win8 64bit System.

So: How is the EntryClient working on that same pc ?
Please download and report.
For other Windows 64 bit system users it would be good to know if the system works. (Just one reply if someone made it work)
