Jens,
After a long period I could finally make a complete test form in epidata
1.3.1.1.
The way I want to work is open data entry, type in some data while in
consultation with the patient, after entry copy to clipboard, paste into
medical chart, edit medical chart and print the filled form.
Like this, it is pretty obvious that somethings in data entry may not be
appropriate to be in the madical chart and some things that should be in
the medical chart will not be necessarily in the form, for istance the
patient initials, and additional medical information respectively.
Few things came by.
Several times while open data entry and data manager the form Headings,
which identify the form, disapeared and appeared again. Currently only part
of the headings are being shown during entry and at printed version.
I have a three page form, and I would like to have the key fields: for
instance patient number and patient initials at the top of each page.
However the key field can not be replicated. I had to make diferent field
and to clone the questions, but in fact they have to be different
variables, is it possible to make the key fields to appear at the top of
each page?.
During entry, sometimes the pick box does not appear even if the show pick
box is ticked at the variable settings, very rarely though.
Sometimes the section headings do not appear in the printed version of the
form with data .
Even after saving the work and closing the file, later when closing the
data manager, a warning comes by about leaving and not saving the last
modifications.
Occasionally, when opening a file data manager comes with a warning about a
backup file more recent the the original file itself, even if the original
file is older then the bak file.
When I copy to clipboard the content of a complete record and later paste
at a .txt file the last six fields come in the top and then the correct
order of the fields start.
I suppose if I send you the file you will be able to test once more and try
to reproduce these stuff, what is the most appropriate way to send the file?

Hello Epidata Forum,
I have been working with Epidata 3.1 database for more than a year with no
issues, but received the following error message since yesterday. I can't
close the program due to this error. I can close error message pop up
window but again and again comes when I try to close the epidata. The only
way to close program is by Ctrl+Alt+Del or reboot the computer. The program
runs on window XP desktop with SP3.

Re: EpiData Manager V1.3.1.1
Is there a way (that I seem unable to locate) of overwriting all data
that might have been entered in EntryClient, equivalent to "Make data
file" in EpiData Entry 3.1?
Thanks,

Dear all
The following changes have been made since last test version,
Find the updated versions for further testing at:
http://www.epidata.dk/testing.php
See former mail with major changes here:
http://lists.umanitoba.ca/pipermail/epidata-list/2013q1/002244.html
For Manager and EntryClient:
* Fixed a number of bugs, e.g. in report "index out of bounds"
* fixed a number of visual issues, e.g. on MAC in conflict with top menu
bar
* fixed or adapted various texts and warnings
* Changed default sizes for headings.
* Changed layout of statusbar.
* Added extra user warning when closing project/program with unsaved
project.
* changed toolbar to include "recent files"
Manager:
* Added hint text on Jump values -
Notice that now "*" means jump on any other value than what was
specified
e.g. 5 jump to v5 all other to v8: use 5 first and then *
(the hint says ., but it is *)
* New report which is the start of a CodeBook.
EntryClient:
* Added: picklist now reponds to keyboard even when focus is on either
list boxes.
* Added: Calculations now also checks for missingvalues.
If any of field in a calculation is missing then no value is
returned.
Can be used to set a default value in a calculated field.
* Added: Implemented use of MustEnter colour -> added to settings.
* Changed behaviour of validation for field, when assigned range and/or
valuelabel.
If all goes well these versions will replace current public download
before middle of April.
Before that we need to also update documentation and introduction
documents, including all the new features.

Dear Jens
I just would like to say that the faculty and students of the medical college in Vellore,India have now taken to epidata and it is being widely used
Many however struggle with the 3 seperate files that need to be created-hence many are waiting for the final versions of the Manager and client
What your team does is phenomenal-would like to place that on record

I wrote this mail yesterday as you see below. The major problems are
with the current test EntryClient module for download from
Http://www.epidata.dk/testing.php
The mail below is a bit unclear about the bugs. The major problems
relate to the EntryClient not to the Project Manager.
Obviously we have strengthened the internal test routines to include
more samples. It is of course as well annoying and a "not so nice" stamp
on our reputation to spend users time on testing faulty software. So
apologies for that.
As users will have noticed there is a clear warning on the testing page
saying that one should only work on copies of data with the test versions.
The task of simulating user behaviour before releasing a test version is
not an easy one. For Analysis we have almost 2000 different asserting
commands and statements, but have until now not been able to implement a
"non-human" standardised testing sequence for EpiData Manager and
EntryClient - apart from going through a number of tests and
applications ourselves.
Despite the efforts spent in strengthening the internal test routines we
still hope to release the new test versions within a few days. There
will be updated versions of both EntryClient and Manager. And following
that public release about two weeks later unless the testing period
reveals major problems.
Rather soon - following the next public release we will clarify the
aspects tested and how our test files are. Users are encouraged to
upload test projects to the bug tracking system, which you find at this
address: http://www.epidata.info/flyspray/

Dear all
A major revision update for Manager and EntryClient has been placed for
testing on page: http://www.epidata.dk/testing.php
A major re-arrangement of menus has taken place to get as close to mimic
EpiData Entry 3.1 has been made.
The version contains many new additions in particular in comparison with
current public release. The hope/expectation is that following
bug-removal we can rather soon release this for general public use.
The following specific major changes since have been implemented:
Download test page on: http://www.epidata.dk/testing.php:
Re-formatted to hopefully better guide users to get the right version.
All types have a zipped version as well as an install version.
Manager Interface:
* Reworked process toolbar and main menu
* Reworked settings/preferences layout.
* Reworked study information form.
* Unification of visual appereance, e.g. opening files
* Attemps to unify wording across different parts of the software.
(Please report areas where this is not the case. )
* A given file can be opened for entry in EntryClient via click on a button
Extended controls and visual specifications during entry and opening of
files:
* Added feature to jump: "." work as 'jump on any value'
* Compare fields can use = and <>
* String fields can be compared - e.g. use to double enter long identity
numbers. and is
* Header lines can take one of five different fonts,
e.g. to separate Headers from comments.
* Perform check to avoid entering data in a backup file (check for date
pattern).
Manager Documentation:
* Visual changes to contents of text reports
* New report: Count by ID
* Adapted validate duplicate report
* User preference for text or html report format can be saved.
* Printing of forms enhanced.
* Importing .rec files with case sensitive field names
A number of bugs fixed:
* Changing password (or resetting) marks project as modified.
* Minor bug fixes related to value labels editor
* Major bugfix which at time lead to A/V without any apparent reason.
* Using large integer values on 32-bit pc's would lead to crash during
save/load.
* Fixed bug in combine string calculation
EntryClient:
* Copy current record to clipboard in user specified format
(with data, labels, questions etc.)
e.g. to use for questions or comments during entry.
* Changed default format to "copy to clipboard"
* Print dataform as empty or with current record data.
* Finishing a record only gives "new record" if this was the last record
in the file.
* Minor bugfixes related to jump
We know of a few bugs, but have not been able to replicate these
systematically:
1
A bug where sometimes the selection of a field or section makes the
mouse move around in a way, where the area of the selection is avoided.
2
A bug where sometimes parts of the screen is blanked out following entry
to fields placed in sections. Unless the user has added the value from a
value selection (F9/+)
If someone can reproduce the errors in a way which can indicate a
sequence leading to the error this would be very welcomed.
