JSA/Hillel, Hand in Hand For Peace and SHOUT are having a fundraiser - social at the West End Cultural Centre. Drawing on memories and archival materials, Penner connects the political dots from his paternal ancestors who emigrated to Southern Russia at the time of Catherine the Great to his own political activities (excerpted from www.mcnallyrobinson.com <http://www.mcnallyrobinson.com/> ). Born in Winnipeg in 1924, Roland Penner became involved after his return from active service during World War II with the communist Labour Progressive Party and later with the New Democratic Party of Manitoba. He practiced law for 15 years and, in 1972, was the first Chairperson of Manitoba's new legal aid system. In 1981, Penner was elected to the Manitoba Legislature and appointed Government House Leader, Chair of the Treasury Board, and Attorney General in the NDP government of Howard Pawley.. He was Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba, where he still teaches Constitutional Law. Shalom, We are excited to announce that the Study Tour - entitled "The Land of Israel: The Jewish Connection" - is making its reappearance at the International School of the University of Haifa this summer in June. We welcome students from around the world to join us as we navigate Israel from top to bottom. During this three-week intensive academic course, students immerse themselves into 4000 years of history through engaging seminars and outdoor field studies. Through study, hiking, reading and exploring, our students gain a hands-on, close-up understanding of the history and the challenges facing Israel and the Jewish People.
