It is true that Epiinfo 6 would read a .rec with some errors, the type of error you describe will probably prevent you from getting the data you want out of the .rec file.
This problem usually arises because a file has been edited and some record lengths changed or from the introduction of some random characters with a disk error. I have always been able to reconstruct .rec files using a plain text editor like the old Windows Notepad. Even better is a programmer's editor (there are many) that can identify the end of each line in case you have a line with more than 80 characters in the data section (e.g. some spaces beyond the !).

Dear List
Today we have released a new exprimental test-version of EpiData Manager
(v 1.3.0.5).
The new version is available for download on our testing website:
http://epidata.dk/testing.php#alpha
In this test version we have changes the printing routine to support
printing directly to a printer, rather than to SVG files (vector graphics).
In addition to support printing a number of minor bugs have also been
fixed.
The full list of changes can be found here:
http://epidata.dk/epidatamanager.changelog.txt
The next test release for the project will contain printing ability for
the EntryClient
Unless the testing reveals problems, which cannot be solved easily
- the official version for real projects will contain the functionality
in the current testversions within some weeks. Announcements will take
place here on the list.
Following the release of the next official version for real projects an
announcement will be made regarding the planned features for the coming
six months.
Kind regards

Please help.
I'm quite new
It doesnt work using epiC.exe
This is the logfile
The sample.epx is from epidata.dk
Command: EpiC e sas sample.epx *

Exporting sample.epx to sample.sas
Exports to: SAS
Records: All
Filter: None
Deleted records in inputfile are not included in export
Error during command e (code 6):
Datafile has no records
I use Epi-C downloaded to day from epidata.dk/download

Dear Dr Thambu
To my knowledge, the Epidata Manager is still at its test version. So, it's better to use the existing Epidata Entry (or Epi Info) for your research data until Epidata Manager work properly. You can get documentation at http://www.epidata.dk.

The new software has been released for general use. There are also test versions available, so be sure to use the "stable release" for real work. This is the version you get at the top of the download page.
In addition to the brief manuals available on the download page of epidata.dk, I prepared a short tutorial for a course last year. It was pretty simple as I just wanted the class to understand what the new Manager and Entry Client would look like.

Hi
I am facing a problem with error "one or more records are corrupted"
I have tried to look for any problem using notepad, deleting the last
record but the rec file still won't open.
Any help out there is greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Michelle
Dear Jens Lauritsen,
EpiData Association
Denmark
I am the co-ordinator of the Clinical Epidemiology Unit of my medical college in South India.
We teach research methods to post graduate students and have been teaching epi-data for a few years, with a lot of positive reviews from students.
We have now been trying out the epidata manager that you have introduced. We thought it would be a good idea to switch to teaching this to our residents rather than the earlier epidata.
In this context, i need your advice
1. Is epidata manager ready for use by students-ie is it still in testing?
2. We seem to be running in to some trouble with using epidata manager-Sir, do you have a detailed user manual or online presentations that we can access to learn the use before teaching
I look forward to your early reply
I want to thank you again for this brilliant effort-many in developing countries with resource constraints are blessed by these efforts
Thanking you
regards

Dear List
Today we have released a new exprimental test-version of EpiData Manager
(v 1.3.0.4).
The new version is available for download on our testing website:
http://epidata.dk/testing.php#alpha
Please challenge this test version. The following description is rather
short, test and see whether you find interface and function intuitive,
and specific aspects with correct function. .
The main new design feature is:
* Completely rewritten dataform designer
* Moving, selecting and replacing fields on the dataform is easier.
* Select multiple fields, texts and sections.
* Changes to Copy, cut & paste.
- Paste will happen at current position of mouse pointer.
* Preliminary Undo/Redo support. This is so far limited to dragging and
sizing of controls.
* Importing data and structures is combined into the same funtionality.
New export formats (CSV, SPSS, SAS)
* Export (printing) to SVG file format, (click on tool in tool bar)
which can be read by e.g. Inkscape (see inkscape.org) of dataforms
* View data
* Encryption of project data (headers are still human readable)
* Key unique including testing of status
* Prepare Double Entry and Validate Double Entry functionality
* Reports may now also be output as Text rather than HTML.
Kind regards
Torsten Christiansen
