Good afternoon,
The University of Manitoba is pleased to announce the opening of the Sexual Violence Resource Centre<https://news.umanitoba.ca/sexual-violence-resource-centre-opens-jan-27/> (SVRC) in UMSU University Centre. UM is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our campus community, and the launch of the SVRC contributes significantly toward advancing this institutional priority.
The SVRC will provide students, faculty and staff access to a team of experts who will answer questions, provide information, and most importantly, offer a supportive and well-informed response to survivors of sexual violence. The SVRC is well-positioned to help survivors navigate the sexual violence process, to provide information on mechanisms of support, and ensure there is appropriate follow-up.
The establishment of a centralized, university-led Sexual Violence Resource Centre addresses Recommendations 29, 30 and 31 in Responding to Sexual Violence, Harassment & Discrimination at The University Of Manitoba: A Path Forward<https://news.umanitoba.ca/um-addresses-sexual-violence-at-community-session/>.
The SVRC is led by two new staff members with significant expertise in the design and delivery of trauma-based support for victims of sexual violence: Bre Woligroski, Sexual Violence Resource Centre coordinator, and Courtney Klassen, confidential intake and triage specialist. Bre Woligroski answers some key questions about the SVRC here<https://news.umanitoba.ca/a-qa-with-bre-woligroski-from-the-sexual-violence…>.
We commend the staff in Student Support and their many collaborators, including students, staff and faculty members, for working in partnership to develop this new, important resource for the university community.
Thank you,
David Barnard, President and Vice-Chancellor
Lynn Zapshala-Kelln, Vice-President (Administration) and Chair of the Implementation Committee
The SVRC is located at 537 UMSU University Centre and can be accessed via phone, email, on a drop-in basis, or by appointment by contacting svrc [at] umanitoba [dot] ca<javascript:DeCryptX('2u2x2t2e0@0u3p1b3q0i1u2q3e0a1/2e2c')> or 204-474-6562.

Good afternoon,
At noon on Wednesday, January 15, the University of Manitoba will join other universities across Canada in holding a moment of silence to honour those lost in the Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 tragedy.
UM community members are welcome to gather in 524 University Centre at Fort Garry or the Buhler Atrium at Bannatyne campus where, at noon, we will observe a minute of silence to mourn the loss of our neighbours, classmates, friends and colleagues.
If schedules preclude you from joining us, I welcome you to pay your respect as you see fit. Those leading classes or laboratories are invited to pause and participate.
I have asked that the flag over Tier remain at half-mast until the end of the day Wednesday and the bells of St. Paul's College ring at noon for a full minute in honour of all those who perished.
UM students, faculty, and staff are reminded that resources are always available through a number of services:

My name is Kim Mitchell and I am a doctoral candidate in nursing at the University of Manitoba. I am currently conducting a study called “A Mixed-Methods Validation of a New Measurement of Writing Self-Efficacy.” In this study, students who have written for academic purposes in their undergraduate or graduate program, are invited to complete a short online survey asking them questions about how they feel about their capabilities as writers.
The link to this survey, if you choose to participate, can be found here: https://umnursing.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_7NBDbNPPA7k37Nj
The survey is expected to take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete and can be completed on a smart phone or computer. We have designed the study to ensure that your confidentiality is protected at all times – before, during, and after this study. The Manitoba Centre for Nursing and Health Research staff will manage the anonymous survey to ensure your privacy.
Your participation in this survey is completely voluntary. Your status in your educational program will not be affected in any way if you choose to participate or not.
Additional information about the study will be available on the online survey. The Education Nursing Research Ethics Board has approved this study. If you have any concerns about this project you may contact the Human Ethics Coordinator at 204.474.712 or at humanethics(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:humanethics@umanitoba.ca>. If you have questions about this study, please contact Kim Mitchell at kmmitch(a)myumanitoba.ca<mailto:kmmitch@myumanitoba.ca> or her advisor Dr. Diana McMillan at Diana.McMillan(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:Diana.McMillan@umanitoba.ca>
