Why is this happening?
Microsoft’s Modern Authentication system is our next step in implementing multi-factor authentication (MFA) for key university systems.
Multi-factor authentication or MFA adds an extra layer of security to your university accounts to protect you, your data and university systems from unauthorized access and phishing attacks.
Verifying your identity using a second factor such as your phone or mobile device prevents others from accessing your accounts, even if they know your password.

Greetings,
My name is Fran Mulhall and I am a Graduate Student in the Department of Environment and Geography being advised by Dr. Michael Campbell. I would like to invite you to participate in a study I am conducting toward my Master of Environment thesis on the topic: Values and Attitudes Toward Canada Geese and Population Management on the University of Manitoba, Fort Garry Campus.
If you have already completed this survey then thank you for your time, you can ignore this reminder. If you haven’t yet taken the survey please consider taking the time to fill it out —all answers will be kept in confidence.
In this study, campus users including faculty, staff and students are invited to take part in an online questionnaire that aims to better understand how campus users feel about Canada geese on campus and different population management options. Your views are important and may inform policy decisions about wildlife management on campus.
The survey is estimated to take you approximately 20 minutes to complete and can be navigated using a laptop, tablet or smart phone.
You do not have to provide any personal, identifying information to participate. Data will be held in confidence, and no registration is required. Data will be analyzed as part of my Master’s thesis and published in academic journal articles as well as shared with the University of Manitoba Sustainability Office and the Vice-Provost office.
Your participation is completely voluntary. You can withdraw from this survey at any time or skip any questions you do not wish to answer, however, any responses will not be able to be withdrawn once submitted. All data will be kept confidential (you will not be asked for your name or any other identifying information) and I will not be able to withdraw your data once it has been submitted.
Additional information is available at the beginning of the online questionnaire. This study has been reviewed and approved by the Research Ethics Board at the University of Manitoba, Fort Garry campus.
If you have any questions about this study, please contact Fran Mulhall (principal investigator) by email at mulhall1(a)myumanitoba.ca<mailto:mulhall1@myumanitoba.ca> .
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Fran Mulhall

Building on our UM Strategic Plan: A message from President Michael Benarroch and Provost Janice Ristock
Usually, the arrival of a new president and vice-chancellor signals the start of extensive strategic plan consultations with faculty, staff, students, and the broader community. While nothing is "usual" these days, circumstances over the past year have allowed us to spend significant time listening to our UM community.
After a difficult year that also included many hard-won successes-thanks to the incredible work by our faculty, staff, students and administrators to fulfill the academic mission of our University-we are excited to begin a community consultation process for building on our existing UM strategic plan.
A full renewal of the strategic plan will be launched in 2022, under the leadership of incoming Provost and Vice-President (Academic), Dr. Diane-Hiebert-Murphy. For now, while respecting the fundamentals in Taking Our Place 2015-2020<https://umanitoba.ca/sites/default/files/2020-06/um-strategic-plan-2015-202…>, our existing strategic plan, we want to provide some specific short-term guidance and are launching an engagement process to seek your input.
In imagining the path we set forward for ourselves, we remain committed to academic and research excellence, an accessible, inclusive and supportive environment on our campuses, and engagement and Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples and communities. We also continue in our commitment to consulting our entire UM community for strategic direction.
The University's mission, vision, values and the five strategic pillars within the current Strategic Plan also will continue to guide us.
They are:
* Inspiring minds through innovative and quality teaching
* Driving discovery and insight through excellence in research, scholarly work and other creative activities
* Creating pathways to Indigenous achievement
* Building community that creates an outstanding learning and working environment
* Forging connections to foster high impact community engagement
Our success will continue to be supported and built on the success of the Front and Centre<https://frontandcentre.cc.umanitoba.ca/> campaign and enhanced by big, bold ideas to inspire the highest levels of philanthropic support for our academic, research, and engagement mission.
Various discussions with the Board of Governors, Senate, Provost's Council and UM Alumni Council have led us to a few focused areas of priority across the pillars to guide the University's progress over the next 18 months. We also want to give all members of the UM community the opportunity to share your own views on those priorities and on our path forward.
We want to hear from you. You may offer your feedback by responding to a series of questions at the following link: Building on our Strategic Plan: Community Consultation 2021<https://cssrp.ca1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3eiT24ux3G3rWbs>.
Your participation in this important engagement exercise is completely voluntary, but we encourage you all to share your input. Your responses are held in the strictest of confidence. Answering these questions will take approximately 15 minutes of your time.
On behalf of entire President's Executive Team, thank you for your ongoing commitment to our University's success. We look forward to hearing from you.

Hello students,
It's been one week since we learned about the 215 little ones who didn't go home, and it has been a very hard week. We are grieving with you, and we are holding our communities close in our prayers. We are especially praying for the Survivors and the families of the little ones who did not come home.
We know that many of you are sad, angry, and shocked. Please know that we are holding space for you in many different ways. We are having Sharing Circles. Instructors have been opening up class time for talking about what we found out. We have a large community of staff and faculty who are here for you.
We have been checking in on many people in our community with phone calls, emails, and text messages too, and we know that you have been doing the same. That's what we do - we take care of each other. Please keep checking on each other.
Our Elders have been leading ceremonies this week and are available for one-on-one phone calls if you just need someone to talk to. They are so strong and have been teaching us how to get through this with their kind words and courageous stories. We are so grateful for them, and in saying that, we ask you to keep checking on the Elders in your circle - they are doing a lot of the heavy lifting right now.
When we can gather in person, we will. In the meantime, please take care of yourselves while you are taking care of others. Information about additional Indigenous cultural healing supports is available at this link<https://sharedhealthmb.ca/files/covid-19-indigenous-cultural-healing-suppor…> and in the attachments.
We are here for you.

We acknowledge and honour this Place where the University of Manitoba campuses are located. These are the original lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and the homeland of the Métis Nation. Christine is Métis and also has Anishinaabeg and Cree ancestors. She acknowledges her family and ancestors who have taken care of this land for thousands of years and commits to continue that legacy. Laurie is a white settler of English and German descent who is committed to walking alongside her Indigenous colleagues, friends and neighbours and doing the work that is necessary to honour the truth, right the wrongs, and contribute to lasting positive change.
