University of Manitoba Telephone Outage Notice

Information Services & Technology would like to inform users of a planned telephone outage from 6:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 8. This maintenance will impact all telephone services on both campuses. The phone services that will be impacted are: No 911 service from a university phone No 555 service No local calls No long distance calls No voicemail service No internal calls on campus Code Blue stations will not work Elevator emergency phones will not work Panic alarms may experience periodic outages In the case of an emergency please call 911 from a CELLULAR phone. For non-emergency assistance please call University of Manitoba Security at 269-3363 from a CELLULAR phone Thank you for your patience during this required maintenance. National Philanthropy Day

Dear faculty, staff and students at the University of Manitoba, Today, November 15, we celebrate National Philanthropy Day (NPD) across the country. This annual event began in the United States in 1986 as special day to honour the impact of people who give generously to support causes that are important to them or volunteer their time to make a difference in their community. Earlier this month, thegovernment of Canada passed a new bill to permanently establish November 15 as National Philanthropy Day in our country. At the University of Manitoba, we are thankful to our faculty, staff and students for their contributions. In countless ways, your generosity has made a positive impact on our university, our community and our world. All over the world, celebrations are being held to honour philanthropists and volunteers who make a difference in their communities. The Association of Fundraising Professionals, Manitoba Chapter will be recognizing a number of people who are committed to improving life in our province. Among them are two of our graduates: John Prystanski (BA/88, JD/12) is being honoured for his work as an Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser and Mark Evans (BCSc [Hons]/84), MSc/86, PhD/88) is being honoured for his work as an Outstanding Philanthropist. These are just two members of the University of Manitoba community who volunteer their time and their talents to make our neighbourhoods and workplaces better places to live and to work. Bannatyne Security Services: temporarily located in S108 Medical Services Building

Effective Friday, November 16th, the University of Manitoba Security Services at the Bannatyne Campus will be temporarily relocated to S108A Medical Services Building. Our permanent location (S105-Medical Services) will be undergoing some renovation work that is expected to take 7-10 days. Please be assured that our service to the community will continue uninterrupted during this time. U-PASS - A Message from UMSU President Bilan Arte

Hello Students! This is a message from the University of Manitoba Students' Union representing all undergraduate students at the University of Manitoba. Below is the referendum question being asked today, tomorrow and on Friday to all undergraduate students at the University. UMSU is interested in measuring student support for a U-PASS program and is inviting all students to learn more about the program at umsu.ca/u-pass and get involved in the decision making process by getting out and making an informed VOTE! "Are you in favour of a mandatory, universal bus pass that would: * cost each undergraduate student no more than $85 per semester, with the price to be adjusted by inflation yearly (using the Manitoba Consumer Price Index), * provide free transportation on Winnipeg Transit during the months of September to April, inclusive, and * include all undergraduate students who are enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester?"
