as stated in the paper Undergraduate Calendar, p. 29, Appendix A:
GEOL 1410 Natural Disasters and Global Change, 3 Cr.Hrs

Both courses are offered through the Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of

. In the Faculty of Pharmacy chapter, p. 437 of the paper
Undergraduate Calendar, Section 5: Program Requirements, the total number of
credit hours for First Year should be 33, making the total credit hours for
all four years 140.
. In the General Studies section of the Extended Education chapter,
Section 4.1: Academic Assessment Policy indicated that academic
regulations were under review. Please note the new regulations have been
approved by Senate as described below. The revised regulations are also
included in the web Calendar.
4.1 Academic Assessment Policy
Academic assessment gauges student success at the University. Formal
academic assessment shall be done following each academic term for all
General Studies students who have completed 30 credit hours or more of
attempts. In order to be in "good standing" in General Studies, a student
much achieve a Degree Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.00 or greater at each
assessment period. Students in "good standing" may continue in General
Studies or, preferably, transfer to a target faculty.
Students who do not achieve a Degree GPA of 2.00 will be placed "on
probation", which will appear on the student's transcript. Once "on
probation", a student will be allowed to register for another term (or
terms). At each point of assessment, students "on probation" must achieve a
Term GPA of 2.00 in order to proceed. In order to clear probation, a
student must achieve a Degree GPA of 2.00. While "on probation", students
are encouraged to consult regularly with the General Studies student advisor
and always prior to registration.
If a student does not succeed in achieving a Term GPA of 2.00, they will be
placed on "academic suspension" for one calendar year. A student on
"academic suspension" is normally not allowed to register in another faculty
or school at the University of Manitoba or to attend any other
post-secondary institution during the time of suspension. Following the
suspension period, a student may re-apply for admission to General Studies.
Section 4.4 Courses Available to General Studies Students
Please note the revised information below indicates that courses in the
Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences may also be taken by students in
General Studies without restriction.
All courses in the following faculties and schools are available to General
Studies students. Prerequisites may be required for some courses as
specified in the course descriptions.
Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources
Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences
Faculty of Arts

This message is being sent on behalf of the Office of the
President.
Dear Colleagues:
I am writing in the aftermath of the recent earthquake in
China, to ask for your assistance, and to advise you of the
initiatives the broader Chinese community of Winnipeg is
undertaking to help the survivors of this tragedy.
As many of you are aware, an earthquake of magnitude 8.0 -
first reported as 7.8 - hit the province of Sichuan, China,
on Monday, May 12. As of May 19, the death toll had reached
34,000 and more than 250,000 were injured. These numbers are
expected to rise rapidly in the days to come.
Beichuan, a small town at the epicenter of the earthquake,
was flattened in seconds. Thousands of students lost their
lives in school on that Monday afternoon. The devastation
and deaths are of such magnitude that the Government of
China has declared three days of national mourning, the
first ever in the Chinese history.
We have all read stories of natural disasters and sometimes
it is hard to comprehend destruction and devastation that is
located far away. For many of our students, faculty and
staff, however, this tragedy is all too real. Sichuan
Province is home to many international students at the
University of Manitoba, and several of our professors have
their hometowns within 200 km of the epicenter. Furthermore
Sichuan University is a sister university of the University
of Manitoba, and Winnipeg is a sister city of Chengdu, the
capital of Sichuan Province.
Dr. Feiyue Wang, a member of our Department of Environment
and Geography as well as the Department of Chemistry, and
Chair of the Manitoba Chinese Tribune, has advised me that
the Chinese and Chinese-Canadian communities of Winnipeg are
co-coordinating efforts to provide care and support to the
victims of this earthquake. A major benefit performance is
planned for May 25 at the Canad Inns - Polo Park. I am
attaching the poster describing this event for your
information. Your attendance would be most appreciated.
If you would like to make a donation, please make your
cheque payable to the Canadian Red Cross, earmarked "China
Earthquake". You may drop the cheque at the event venue, or
at the Winnipeg Chinese Cultural and Community Centre, or
mail it directly to the Canadian Red Cross National Office,
170 Metcalfe, Suite 300, Ottawa, ON K2P, 2P2. If you wish,
you may donate directly with your credit cards at
www.redcross.ca <http://www.redcross.ca/> .
Most importantly, do not forget that our University has many
Chinese students, scholars of Chinese origin, and friends of
Chinese ancestry in the community. A friendly smile would
help them immeasurably, as would an inquiry about their
families and friends. Whatever their circumstances, it will
help them to know that though they may be far from home,
here they are not alone.
Sincerely,
Emőke Szathmáry, Ph.D.
President and Vice-Chancellor

Reminder: The Voluntary Withdrawal Deadline for Winter Term 2008 and
Fall/Winter 2007/2008 (spanned) courses is Thursday, March 20. You can
withdraw from classes through Aurora Student. Students who are on Hold due
to outstanding tuition, library books, parking fines, etc. must obtain
assistance from a student advisor in their academic unit or the Registrar's
Office.
Summer Session registration commences the week of March 24 to March 28.
Students will be assigned one day during this week in which to register.
Each day during this first week of registration an equal number of spaces
are released to the registration system. There is no advantage to students
who are assigned a registration day that is earlier in the week.
Beginning Monday, March 31 all students may register. Check for your
registration time on Aurora Student > Enrolment & Academic Records >
Registration > Registration Time and Status.
Please note:
. Register at your earliest opportunity. Space is limited and
courses that are in high demand will fill during the first week of
registration or shortly after.
. If you are planning to repeat a course you must obtain approval
from your faculty/school/University 1 office prior to registration.
. Check course descriptions to ensure you are not selecting a course
that may not be held for credit with a course you have already completed
toward your degree or intended program.
. Check course descriptions to ensure you have the prerequisite for
courses you have selected.
. Note changes made to the Student Fee Account in Aurora Student.
Fee Deadlines are based on the start date or 'part of term' in which course
is offered. The total amount owing for Summer Session is displayed on the
main fee account screen in Aurora. Click on the link below the Summer
Session fee term to display amounts owing with each associated fee deadline.
. Students who register for Summer Session courses are responsible
for all assessed fees. Your registration will not be cancelled for
non-payment of fees, however, student with outstanding balances after the
fee deadline will be placed on Hold. If you decide not to attend a course(s)
you have registered in, make sure you withdraw your registration prior to
the start of the class to ensure that fee assessment is reversed.

upon registration. You may view Field Work Fees and Lab Fees attached to
