Be in the stands TONIGHT, Thursday, February 22, when tournament fever descends on the University of Manitoba for the first Bisons appearance in the Canada West Men’s Basketball Tournament. <https://www.showpass.com/httpswwwshowpasscom2024-canada-west-mens-basketbal…>
This is the largest single-elimination tournament in Canadian university basketball history, and Manitoba earned a bye into the quarter-finals tonight. At 8 p.m., they’ll tip off against the twelfth-ranked University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves.
The winner gets one step closer to earning the championship banner for their school in the semi-final games on Saturday, February 24.
YOU can give the Bisons their homecourt advantage by bringing some BIG BISON energy to IGAC tonight.
The first 300 students to use the promo code “STUDENT” get 50% of the ticket price to the game tonight. Tonight’s ticket also gets you in to see the UWinnipeg Wesmen play the University of Fraser Valley at 6 p.m.
Tonight’s match-ups feature excitement and disappointment. Teams must win or go home through each round as they vie for the honour of bringing home the banner. Only six different schools have won the banner in conference history.
Take in an extra dose of entertainment tonight with in-game host Jordan Knight testing your basketball trivia for prize giveaways and extra special half-time performances by Shanley Spence, Hoop Dancer, and Sarah Teakle (circus-style performance).

Dear Student,
The Academic Integrity Advisory Committee at the University of Manitoba wants to know what’s working for our students and what isn’t, and your opinion counts. We have partnered with researchers and affiliated with the International Center for Academic Integrity<https://academicintegrity.org/> to help us learn more about our culture and how it compares to other colleges and universities around the world.
Would you complete a 15-minute survey to help us learn more about your attitudes and behaviors relating to your academic work? The survey asks about how you completed assignments and your attitudes and beliefs towards your studies. You are never required to answer any questions you prefer not to answer. Your answers are held in complete confidence and aggregated by the International Center for Academic Integrity. The University of Manitoba will only have access to aggregate data. No one from the University of Manitoba will know which responses are yours.
As a thank you for participating, you can enter a draw for a chance to win a gift card to your choice of Amazon or the University of Manitoba Bookstore. An early draw will be held for a $200 gift card on January 23, 2024. A final draw for a chance to win one of eight $100 gift cards will be held at the end of data collection on February 7, 2024. You can enter the draw by clicking on the link on the last page of the survey. This is a survey link common to all survey participants and not tied to the study survey response you provide. No one can connect your name with your survey responses.
If you have any questions about your participation as a University of Manitoba student in the survey, please contact Dr. Brenda M. Stoesz at Brenda.Stoesz(a)umanitoba.ca. Re: VPRI Undergraduate Research Award (URA) Opportunities
Dear University of Manitoba Undergraduate Students:
Wondering what to do in the summer of 2024? Why not experience research with a professor at your own university! Professors at the University of Manitoba, through their work, are contributing to the cultural, economic, health, and social well-being of citizens of Manitoba, Canada, and the world. By tackling challenging and complex issues and topics, they strive to make our lives better and more meaningful, bringing insight to all. UM Professors collectively draw in nearly $220 million from external sources to the University, on a competitive basis, to support their research, scholarly work, and creative activities, and to nurture young minds to become trailblazers, pioneers, and innovators.
About the Undergraduate Research Award
The award provides the opportunity for you to be mentored by a professor of your choice for 16 weeks (between May–August 2024) and gain valuable experience in your field of interest. Recipients also receive a $7000 award. Of the many awards available, at least 10% of these awards will be made available to students who self-declare as Canadian Indigenous Students on the application form. Furthermore, there will also be a minimum of two awards made available to students working on community-based research projects that are within disciplines supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). To be considered eligible for this opportunity, applicants must confirm with their University of Manitoba professor that the research is community-based research within disciplines supported by SSHRC and indicate this by checking the appropriate box on the application form.
Who is eligible?
* Must be an undergraduate student at UM.
* Must be enrolled in 24 credit hours at the time of the Voluntary Withdrawal deadline (Fall term 2023 and Winter term 2024)
* Minimum GPA of 3.0, based on all credits completed at the time of application.
* Cannot be held in conjunction with other competitive summer research awards such as the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada’s Undergraduate Research Summer Award (NSERC USRA)
* Students who will be graduating in the Spring of 2024 (May/June convocation) are not eligible for this award.
* This award cannot be held more than twice by any recipient during their undergraduate program(s) at UM.
* Students who hold a master’s degree are not eligible for this award.
What do you need to do?
* Interview professors (minimum 1) to find out more about their areas of research, scholarly work, or creative activities, and to explore the potential for a research experience with them via the URA.
* Once you have decided on your preferred research supervisor, fill out and submit the online application form (found at https://umanitoba.ca/research/opportunities-support/undergraduate-research-…), following any prompts shown on the screen.
* The selected researcher will then receive an email with a separate form that they must fill out to confirm their willingness to take on a student and provide details regarding the potential research experience.
* Further instructions and information will be automatically generated for both you and the professor/researcher you listed on your application form, upon submission.
We are now accepting applications! The deadline to apply is February 13, 2024.
When will you hear about the decision?
Submissions will be adjudicated by a committee appointed by the faculty in which your chosen researcher resides, where applicable. All applicants for the University of Manitoba Undergraduate Research Award (URA) will be notified of their results by mid-March 2024. Further correspondence with award recipients will be shared, as necessary.
Please visit our website for more information: https://umanitoba.ca/research/opportunities-support/undergraduate-research-…. Further inquiries can be made to ura(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:ura@umanitoba.ca>.
We look forward to receiving your application material. Good luck!
