Notification - Half Marathon and 5 km Walk/Run on Sunday, Sept. 23rd

To: All Staff & Students Please note that this Sunday, September 23rd there will be a half marathon taking place through part of the Fort Garry Campus as well as a 5 km walk/run. Neither event will restrict access to the campus but there may be some delays at intersections during each race. The Rotary Half Marathon will begin at 8 a.m. and will have participants running through the campus from approximately 8:20 - 10:30 a.m. The race path will include the East portion of campus with runners coming down University Crescent to Sifton Road, Saunderson Street, Freedman Crescent, out King's Drive. The Commerce Students' Association Race for Space will begin at 3 p.m. The race will take place mostly on sidewalks throughout campus. In the areas where there are not sidewalks - specifically Freedman Crescent, Saunderson Street, and Sifton Road - there will be pylons set up that will designate the race path. Fee Payment Information for UM 2012 Fall Term

Dear UM students, The Fall 2012 Fee Payment Deadline is Wednesday, September 5. Avoid the lines - pay online! Refer to the Financial Services website<http://umanitoba.ca/admin/financial_services/revcap/StudentAccounts.htm> for payment options. Late Fees<http://umanitoba.ca/student/records/fees/827.htm> will apply if you are registered for Fall 2012 term and do not pay the balance in full by the deadline, or if your initial registration and payment is after September 5. Reminder: You are responsible for tuition and general fees for all courses in which you are registered. Note: The University of Manitoba will not cancel/de-register students from current term courses for non-payment. Fee Payment Deferrals for Student Aid recipients If you are expecting a Government Student Loan, you may be eligible for a fee payment deferral. Tuition fee deferrals may be arranged prior to the fee payment deadline when students have unforeseen delays in receiving their government student loans. Deferrals are only for students with current Government student loans; no other payment extensions/plans are available through the Financial Aid & Awards Office<http://umanitoba.ca/student/fin_awards/>.. UMSU Health & Dental Plan Deadline to Opt-Out: Wednesday, September 19, 2012 Steps... * Check your Aurora student fee account to ensure you were assessed the health and dental fees. * Fill out the online opt-out from. (not Provincial Health or International Student Health insurance) * Print and hold on to the confirmation email you will receive from the auto generator when you complete your opt-out. You may be asked to provide this confirmation as proof at a later date. * With a successful opt-out , you do not have to include payment for UMSU Health & Dental in your fee payment. If you have opted out the UMSU Health & Dental fee will be reversed off your tuition after the opt-out deadline and by the end of September. Road Closures on Campus Sunday, June 17h 2012 - Manitoba Marathon

The annual Manitoba Marathon is being held Sunday, June 17th, 2012. Again this year, the 2.6 mile Super Run will follow the ring road around campus between 7:00am and 9:00am. The Super Run route begins in front of the Max Bell Centre, heads north, and turns immediately onto Sifton Rd and follows the Dysart and the ring road to Freedman Crescent, University Crescent, Chancellor Matheson then finishes at the Pan Am stadium. To accommodate the Super Run as well as the regular half and full marathon routes, you should take note of the following campus access route closures: * 5:00 am University Crescent closed to vehicle traffic from Pembina Highway to Dafoe Road. The crescent will re-open around 1:00 pm. * 5:00 am Chancellor Matheson closed to vehicle traffic (except buses). The University of Manitoba is dedicated to promoting vibrant, healthy living and quality of life through programs and services. As part of this initiative, the U of M community will continue its commitment to healthy active living by presenting the 23rdnd annual Sneakers in motion Day. Sneakers in motion Day will take place on Thursday June 7th at 12pm on the Fort Garry and the Bannatyne campuses. Sneakers in motion Day June 7th , 2012 12:00pm-1:00pm Sneakers in motion Day will be held at the: * Fort Garry Campus - Curry Place Pedway (rain location Max Bell Fieldhouse) * Bannatyne Campus - Brodie Atrium Hosted by the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management, Sneakers in motion Day is a fun and exciting event that includes a short or long walk around campus, prize give-a ways, entertainment and a healthy lunch. Prizes will be awarded to groups and individuals who participate in Fort Garry Campus event activities and dress in costume. At the Bannatyne Campus, 50/50 tickets will be sold and proceeds will go to the Osborne House Inc., a safe and supportive environment for women and their children who are experiencing domestic abuse. Walk participants on both campuses are asked donate their gently used shoe. Shoe donations will be given to the women and children of Osborne House who are striving to become or remain active during this difficult transition period in their lives. Lunch tickets for Sneakers in motion Day are $6.00 and they must be pre-purchased at the Answers Booth in University Centre, the Frank Kennedy Centre Customer Service Desk. New this year lunches can also be purchased by completing and emailing the lunch order form (with credit card information) to event organizer, who will arrange delivery of tickets to Fort Garry campus offices only. At the Bannatyne Campus, tickets can be purchased at the Joe Doupe Centre and the Bookstore. Deadline for purchasing lunch tickets is Monday June 4th 12:00pm (noon). Dear UM students, The May Day and May Evening classes for the 2012 Summer Session commence the week of April 30. The Fee Payment deadline for courses in these time periods is Tuesday, May 1. If you have an outstanding balance after May 1, you will be assessed a Late Payment Fee. Check your account in Aurora for the specific payment dates that apply to your course registrations. Reminder: You are responsible for tuition and general fees for all courses in which you are registered. The University of Manitoba will not cancel/de-register students from current term courses due to non-payment. If you have registered for Summer 2012 courses and have decided not to attend, you must drop these courses by the applicable Registration Revision deadlines to avoid financial obligations for the course registrations. Campus Beautification Day May 24, 2012

CAMPUS BEAUTIFICATION DAY will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2012. This is the 15th year of this highly successful event which is made possible by the great leadership of the Physical Plant staff. Staff, students, faculty and retirees are invited to participate on a voluntary basis to help beautify the campus. Each department is requested to designate a CONTACT PERSON who will be responsible for coordinating the volunteers from their department. The name, department, address and phone number of the contact person should be forwarded by Friday, April 27, 2012 to: Fort Garry Campus - campbeau(a)cc.umanitoba.ca<mailto:campbeau@cc.umanitoba.ca> Bannatyne Campus - jerry_wind(a)aramark.ca<mailto:jerry_wind@aramark.ca> If you have any questions, please contact Lyle Morin at 474-6286 or email lyle.morin(a)ad.umanitoba.ca<mailto:lyle.morin@ad.umanitoba.ca>. Jobs such as picking up paper, raking, sweeping, pulling weeds and planting flowers will be identified. The Department of Philanthropy will be approaching garden centres for donations of flowers and plants. Physical Plant staff will be assigned to each zone to work with the contact people to coordinate the projects. A brown bag meeting of all contact people will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room, 2nd Floor, University Centre at noon on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 to finalize the arrangements. Refreshments will be provided. On Campus Beautification Day, a barbecue lunch sponsored by ARAMARK will be held at noon in the quadrangle on the Fort Garry Campus and in front of the Brodie Centre on the Bannatyne Campus for all volunteers. Pepsi will be providing the refreshments. The Bookstore as well as various other business on Campus will be donating "door" prizes for the event. This year the Grand Prize is two airline tickets donated by West Jet. Teams are encouraged to propose projects which will be judged and the best gardens will be awarded with first, second and third prizes. Last year many innovative ideas were presented so please submit your ideas to campbeau(a)cc.umanitoba.ca<mailto:campbeau@cc.umanitoba.ca> (Fort Garry Campus) or jerry_wind(a)aramark.ca<mailto:jerry_wind@aramark.ca> (Bannatyne Campus). Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, rakes and spades from home although some will be provided by Physical Plant. Physical Plant will be hiring additional grounds staff during the summer to maintain the work. The project will commence at 9:00 AM and continue throughout the day. Everyone is invited to participate for as much time as their schedules permit. In the event of rain, the rain date is Friday, May 25, 2012 so please keep that date open as well. Ever woken up not feeling like yourself? Welcome to the club. So has the rest of Canada. It's nothing to be ashamed of. Almost every single person in every community across this country has felt anxious, stressed, even depressed at some point, including many of your friends. So you're in good company. What's important is to pay attention to those feelings. That's part of dealing with your mental health. And the more you look after it, the healthier your life will be. Sadly, some people live with those feelings all the time. You may even know someone. Now imagine having to live with the shame, discrimination and lack of treatment and support that goes with it. It's time for change.
