The following award opportunity is waiting for you! The Alumni Association Inc. of the University of Manitoba offers two annual scholarships for students who have excelled in their studies and have demonstrated leadership and/or commitment to voluntarism during the course of their academic career. Two scholarships valued at $3,750 each will be offered to undergraduate students who: (1) have successfully completed the second year of full-time study at the University of Manitoba (minimum of 48 credit hours), in any faculty or school; (2) will be in the next ensuing academic session (2010/11), enrolled full-time (minimum 60% course load) in the third year of study in any faculty or school; (3) have achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.0 or, as students in the Undergraduate Medical Education Program, are in good academic standing; (4) have demonstrated strong leadership abilities and/or a strong commitment to community through their volunteer activities. Action Required Dear all U of M students, As you may be aware, when you graduate from a post-secondary institution and live and work in Manitoba you are eligible for a rebate on tuition paid after December 31, 2003. Manitoba Finance and the Canada Revenue Agency require the University of Manitoba to send your T2202A tax receipt information to them each year to verify your eligibility for this rebate. Your consent is required for the University of Manitoba to begin submitting this information on your behalf. Consent is required only once. T2202A information for 2010 will be sent in early 2011. To provide your consent, log into Aurora Student and go to Enrolment & Academic Records |Declarations | Declare Consent for Release of T2202A Tax Receipt Information. Read the information carefully and either consent or decline to have your information sent to Manitoba Finance and the Canada Revenue Agency in support of the tuition tax credit. If you choose to decline, your T2202A receipt information will not be forwarded to Manitoba Finance and the Canada Revenue Agency. If you do not respond by June 30, 2010 you will be required to do so the next time you log in to register or to access your grades. The Hold that prevents you from registering or viewing grades will be removed immediately after you respond and you may proceed immediately without further delay. i.e. you will not have to log again. University of Manitoba Security Services is urging caution following a reported incident of a purse snatching in the early evening March 13, 2010 in the vicinity of Chancellor Matheson Road. Students, faculty, and staff are urged to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious person(s) immediately. Security Services continues to work in conjunction with Winnipeg Police Service and reminds our community that the Department is available 24/7, providing safewalks, patrols, and immediate response to emergencies, Code Blue Poles and emergency phones throughout campus. Winter 2010 VW Deadline & Summer Session 2010 Registration

Reminder: Voluntary Withdrawal Deadline for Fall/Winter and Winter Term Courses is Friday, March 19, 2010 The deadline for Voluntary Withdrawal from Fall/Winter and Winter Term courses taught during the standard term is this Friday, March 19. VW's must be done through Aurora Student. Courses taught outside the standard term will have different VW deadlines. Note - if you are On Hold for outstanding tuition, library books, parking fines, etc. you will not be able to access the Registration function in Aurora to VW a course. If you are On Hold and plan to VW, you must either first clear your Hold so that you can access the Registration functions in Aurora, or you must contact your Faculty (University 1) advising office for assistance in dropping the course. Are you planning to take courses in Summer Session? Join the thousands of students who take advantage of Summer Session to lighten their load in fall & winter, finish their degree faster, enjoy smaller classes, or catch up on missed or failed courses. Here are some things to know if you are planning to register for Summer Session . Registration begins March 22, 2010. You will be assigned one day during the first week in which you can register. The <http://www.umanitoba.ca/extended/summer/calendar/registration/reg_sched.sht ml> Registration Schedule indicates registration dates and times. Find your registration time on Aurora Student. Log in and select Enrolment & Academic Records. Select Registration and then Registration Time & Status. While on this page you should also check to see if: o You have any Holds that will prevent registration (including Advisor Holds for students in specific programs); o Your academic status prevents registration (e.g. academic suspension); o Your record is not currently active due to an absence from university. . For the first 5 days of registration (March 22, 23, 24, 25, and 26), spaces in most courses are released each day in equal numbers to ensure fair access for all students. For example, if a course has 50 spaces available, 10 spaces will be released each day. During these first 5 days of registration, the only day you may register is determined by the last two digits of your Student Number (see below). You may register between 9:00 am and 12:00 midnight on your day of registration. . If you are planning to Repeat a course(s) you have previously completed, you must obtain permission from your faculty (University 1) advising office prior to registration. Your advisor can also check to ensure that a course Repeat is to your benefit depending on your academic goals. Do this in advance of your registration day to ensure that your registration is not delayed and you don't miss out on space. . If you are expecting to graduate in Spring 2010, you must re-apply for admission if you plan to continue taking courses in Summer Session. . Remember that you are financially and academically responsible for all courses in which you are registered after the Revision deadline. This Revision period is very short in Summer Session, so make sure you drop a course you will not be taking before it begins - or at the latest before the applicable Revision deadline. Failure to pay for your courses will not result in a de-registration of courses. Students who fail to pay for courses will be placed on <http://umanitoba.ca/student/records/registration/steps/652.htm> Hold and will be unable to register for the following term until the Hold is cleared. Failure to withdraw through normal procedures will result in a grade being assigned to all courses in which you are registered in at the end of term and you will be liable for all associated fees. Saunderson and Stanton Excellence in Teaching Award Deadline: March 15, 2010 for Spring Convocation Ceremonies Do you know an outstanding professor or instructor who deserves recognition for their teaching skills? If so, you may be interested in nominating someone you consider to be an exceptional faculty member for the Saunderson & Stanton Excellence in Teaching Award. Nominations are accepted all year for these annual awards provided by the Dr. and Mrs. H.H. Saunderson Award fund and from the bequest of Mrs. Olive Beatrice Stanton. Each award is valued at $2,000, two from the Saunderson Fund and one or two from the Stanton Fund. This is the 42nd year that nominations have been invited for the Stanton Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the 39th year for the Dr. and Mrs. H.H. Saunderson Award for Excellence in Teaching. Instructors may be nominated in any year but those who have received either the Saunderson or the Stanton awards in the previous 10 years are not eligible for selection. WRHA H1N1 Clinic - On Campus Clinic Ends December 4

The WRHA H1N1 clinic at the Fort Garry campus is available for all University of Manitoba students to receive the vaccination. This vaccine is available to you from the WRHA at no charge. If you are considering getting the H1N1 vaccination please visit Room 210 University Centre this week before the on campus clinic ends on December 4, 2009. Please bring your Manitoba Health card. Those students without a Manitoba Health card are also welcome and will be asked fill in an additional form. In an effort to track flu related illness and absence on campus, IST has developed an Illness Self Reporting channel within JUMP. The purpose of this channel is for students and staff to self identify that they are ill with influenza symptoms and that they are unable to come to work or school. Please remember that: - Students who are home with flu or flu-like symptoms are encouraged to notify their professors and/or departments of their absence. - Employees: please be sure to report your absence to your supervisor and/or department and get well soon.
