Join us on Thursday, October 22, 2026, to showcase your summer research, connect with fellow student researchers, and compete for a share of $7,500 in cash prizes! NEW! This year, alongside the Oral Presentation Stream and Poster Presentation Stream, both hosted in the Multi-Purpose Room in University Centre, we are excited to introduce a new Innovation Stream. This stream will provide interested students with an opportunity to share the entrepreneurial and innovation potential of their projects and ideas in an elevator pitch style presentation. The Innovation Stream will be hosted by IDEA START<https://umanitoba.ca/ideastart> in the new IDEA START space in University Centre (Room 151, 1st Floor) and will feature an audience and judges dedicated to foster innovation, creativity, collaboration, and entrepreneurship. Who Can Register? All UM undergraduate students who meet the following criteria are welcome to participate: * Currently enrolled at UM or graduated in Spring 2026, as long as your research was completed during your undergraduate studies. * On track to complete a UM undergraduate degree. * Supervised by a UM-affiliated researcher (e.g., through URA, NSERC USRA, or similar programs). * Students in Honours thesis programs or special Honours courses are also eligible. Presentation Categories Choose the category that best fits your research: * Applied Sciences * Health Sciences * Natural Sciences * Social Sciences and Humanities * Creative Works Please note that, for the Innovation Stream, all categories will be evaluated together as one judging pool. L’offis Wiichihihwahk is a Michif name gifted to our office by Elder Charlotte Nolin with the support of Michif language keeper Verna DeMontigny. It means “the office that helps.” When gifting the name, Elder Nolin shared a simple but powerful teaching: people are the medicine, helping one another. That spirit is at the heart of L’offis Wiichihihwahk – Office of the Vice-President (Indigenous) — supporting one another, building relationships and creating a campus community where Indigenous students, cultures, languages, Knowledges and Ways of Being are respected and can thrive. Gifted in Michif, the name honours the Métis Nation and is part of a growing effort to ensure Indigenous names and languages are visible, spoken and honoured throughout our campuses. UManitoba Mobile App Retiring September 3 The UManitoba mobile app will be retired on September 3, 2026, and removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. After this date, you will no longer be able to sign in or access content through the app. Many of the services and information previously available in the app are already accessible through UM websites and other online services. An initiative is currently underway to improve the digital experience for students, informed by recent student consultation and survey feedback. What you need to know: * The UManitoba mobile app will no longer be available after September 3, 2026. * Existing users will no longer be able to access app content or services after that date. * Students should use UManitoba websites and Aurora to access university information and resources. Road construction Roadwork on and around the Fort Garry campus may affect your commute, including construction on Dysart Road, University Crescent, Pembina Highway, Abinojii Mikanah and Kings Drive. Please expect delays and plan ahead. Allow for an additional 15 to 30 minutes on average. Winnipeg Transit Winnipeg Transit’s fall schedule begins September 6. Important upcoming changes to multi-factor authentication Dear students, staff and faculty, The University of Manitoba would like to share information regarding Microsoft’s upcoming changes to multi-factor authentication (MFA), which are intended to strengthen account security and reduce the risk of phishing attacks. Microsoft has announced that it will begin retiring its built-in SMS text message and voice call verification options. Beginning September 1, 2026, people who use SMS text message or voice call verification for MFA may see prompts asking them to register a more secure authentication method, such as: * Microsoft Authenticator<https://umanitoba.ca/information-services-technology/my-security/set-up-mfa…> * Passkeys – To add a passkey, go to mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info<https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info> → click "Add sign-in method" → select "Passkey" and follow the steps. * Hardware security keys<https://umanitoba.ca/information-services-technology/my-security/request-to…> – OTP (one-time password) key fobs for example or any which are FIDO (Fast Identity Online)-compliant No immediate action is required. SMS and voice-based MFA will continue to work for now. However, if you are not already using one of these authentication methods, Information Services and Technology recommends registering for a more secure option as soon as Microsoft prompts you to do so. The Copyright Office regularly receives reports of course materials being shared or posted without the permission of the academic staff member who created them. In response, the UM Copyright Guidelines<https://umanitoba.ca/copyright/guidelines> were updated last year to help clarify what can be legally copied or shared. This spring, the Senate and Board of Governors also approved a revision to the Student Non-Academic Misconduct and Concerning Behaviour procedure<https://umanitoba.ca/governance/sites/governance/files/2026-05/student-non-…> to reinforce understanding of the intellectual property rights of academic staff. As a student, it's important to understand that course materials created by an instructor or professor - such as PowerPoints, handouts, notes, recorded lectures - are protected by copyright and intended for your personal study. These materials must not be shared, uploaded, or distributed in any format without permission, including on note-sharing or tutoring websites such as Course Hero or Chegg. JUNE 2026 Final Exam Period approaching The June 2026 Final Exam period runs from June 15 - 19, 2026. The complete exam schedule can be found on the Final Exam Schedule webpage<https://umanitoba.ca/registrar/final-exams/final-exam-schedule>, and your personal exam schedule is available on your My Exams Card in Aurora<https://aurora.umanitoba.ca/banprod/twbkwbis.P_WWWLogin>. Please make sure to confirm your exam date, time, location, and format. NOTE: If you are registered in May - August or July - August courses that have a final exam, the August 2026 exam schedule is expected to be posted approximately four weeks prior to the final exam period of August 10-15, 2026. Plan your arrival: Make sure you have a plan to get to campus early in case transport does not go as planned. Check out the classroom in which your exam is taking place in advance! 2. Download the UM Safe App<https://news.umanitoba.ca/enhance-your-safety-on-campus-with-the-um-safe-ap…>: a direct link to Campus Security Services for any emergencies that may arise. 3. Supplies: Ensure you have the necessary writing utensils and some extras! Students must ensure that all items required for the examination are placed on top of the desk prior to the start of the examination. 4. Attendance & identification: Students must display their UM student ID card or government issued photo identification (such as a passport or driver's license) and are required to sign an attendance form. 5. Arriving late: * Students who arrive more than 30 minutes after the start of the examination will not be permitted to write the examination. * Students who arrive less than 30 minutes late, will be permitted to write the examination, but must stop writing at the end of the scheduled exam time. * Students are not permitted to enter the examination room after at least one other student who is writing the same examination has left the examination room. * If you are late and not permitted to write an examination, you will be asked to complete the appropriate form by an invigilator and will then be advised to contact the Office of your Dean or Director no later than the next business day to discuss possible alternatives. 1. Illness/ emergency during your exam: If you become ill during the course of an examination and are unable to continue, you must report at once to the Head Invigilator, hand in the examination, and indicate either that you wish to submit your examination paper as: (1) completed; or (2) not completed and with the intention to request a deferred examination. Medical or supporting documentation will likely be required for your deferral request. 2. Leaving the exam: * Students are not permitted to leave the examination room during the first thirty (30) minutes of an examination. * Students are not permitted to re-enter an examination room until all examination scripts have been collected. ________________________________ Unauthorized materials in exams Students are not permitted to access any unauthorized materials during an examination. This includes but is not limited to calculators, books, notes, pencil cases, or any electronic device capable of wireless communication and/or storing information. However, students may bring in such materials or devices when permission has been given by the instructor. Students may store valuables and personal items under the desk or chair of the examination room but may not have access to these items during the examination. Items stowed under the desk or chair must not obstruct the aisles of the examination room.
