Upcoming change to your Microsoft Outlook account: Automatic archiving of email older than two years Dear students, Thank you for your efforts in meeting the M365 data storage limits for students, faculty and staff. As part of our ongoing efforts to manage Microsoft 365 storage responsibly, a change will be made to your Microsoft Outlook account: email messages older than two years will be automatically archived. This will include Shared Mailboxes. Starting May 28, 2026 emails more than two years old will be moved from your Outlook mailbox to an Online Archive. What this means for you * Archived email – including in shared mailboxes – will remain fully accessible within Outlook in an Online Archive folder. This folder will appear in the regular Outlook navigation pane (on the left-hand side of your screen) as a sub-folder titled Online archive – email address * You will still be able to search, read, reply to, and forward archived messages just as you would any other email. * This change helps keep mailbox sizes manageable while preserving long‑term access to your messages. What you need to know * No action is required on your part. IST will implement this change automatically. * No emails will be deleted. * The only adjustment for users is when searching for older emails. Messages more than two years old will be located in the Online Archive folder rather than your primary mailbox. * The archiving process may take up to six weeks to complete. During this transition, you may need to search both your primary mailbox and the archive folder to locate messages. How to search for archived emails * Classic Outlook users - Your archived emails will be located in the folder named Online archive – UMNetID(a)myumanitoba.ca<mailto:UMNetID@myumanitoba.ca>. To search archived emails, open the Online Archive folder and use the search bar at the top. To search across both your mailbox and online archive, select "All folders” from the drop-down menu in the search bar. Illness/ emergency during your exam: If you become ill or receives word of a family emergency during the course of an examination and are unable to continue, you must report at once to the Head Invigilator, hand in the examination, and indicate either that you wish to submit your examination paper as: (1) completed; or (2) not completed and with the right to request a deferred examination. Join us on November 13 for a conversation on economic Reconcilitation] Dear Bisons, On November 13, UM is hosting a unique in-person event where big thinkers will explore ideas surrounding economic Reconciliation. What does it mean to build an economy that provides space for Indigenous prosperity and how can Manitoba, home to one of the largest populations of First Nations and Métis people, lead the way in shaping a more just and inclusive economic future? This special event is part of my podcast, "What's the Big Idea?<https://umanitoba.ca/community/whats-the-big-idea-podcast>", and for this episode, Dr. Angie Bruce, Vice-President (Indigenous), will take the host's chair. She will engage three bold alumni in a critical conversation about our economic future. The panelists are: Diane Roussin [BSW/96], a member of Skownan First Nation and an Anishinaabe leader who champions Indigenous-led solutions to large scale systems change for families and communities. She is the project director of Winnipeg Boldness, Canada's longest serving Indigenous Social Innovation Lab. Kathleen Bluesky [BA/99, MBA/15], a Cree and Anishinabe Ikwe from Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation and Minegoziibe Anishinabe First Nation. She is the owner of Seven Feathers Consulting and has led transformative initiatives, including Aski Pumenikewin (Land Code) and the NCN Othasowewin (Constitution), played a pivotal role in securing Manitoba's inaugural Social Impact Bond in 2019, and continues to shape Indigenous development as CEO of the Treaty One Development Corporation. Peter Pomart [MBA/18, PhD/25], is a Lecturer at the I.H. Asper School of Business and the former Director of Indigenous Business Education Partners. His PhD dissertation, "Indigenous Voices on Self-Determination, FPIC, and Canada's Evolving Duty to Consult and Accommodate Framework: An Empirical Study," presents an Indigenous-centred perspective on UNDRIP (United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples) and its implications for resource development in Canada. This conversation will explore what economic Reconciliation means and looks like to participants and their organizations, and what we must collectively do to achieve it.
