Subject: Internship Opportunities with Ecotrust Canada's North Coast Innovation Lab (U Manitoba)
Good day,
My name is Nathan Randall and I am the Manager of the North Coast Innovation Lab<http://ecotrust.ca/project/the-north-coast-innovation-lab/>, an initiative under Ecotrust Canada<http://ecotrust.ca/> based in Prince Rupert, BC.
It is my pleasure to announce four (4) upcoming paid internship opportunities for currently-enrolled Masters students, from January - August 2019 in Prince Rupert, BC. You will find the positions and their descriptions linked to Ecotrust Canada's web site below:
NCIL Project Coordinator: HSEDS Social Enterprise<http://ecotrust.ca/job/ncil-project-coordinator-hseds-social-enterprise/> (social enterprise development)
NCIL Project Coordinator: Vertical Farming<http://ecotrust.ca/job/ncil-project-coordinator-vertical-farming/> (seafood enterprise development)
NCIL Project Coordinator: Nisga'a Society Food Security<http://ecotrust.ca/job/ncil-project-coordinator-nisagas-society-food-securi…> (food security program/enterprise development)
NCIL Project Coordinator: Redesign Rupert Downtown Redevelopment<http://ecotrust.ca/job/ncil-project-coordinator-redesign-rupert-downtown-re…> (downtown revitalization project prototyping and research)
These internships are being supported in part by Mitacs, thus, only currently-enrolled, full-time Masters students are eligible for these positions. In addition to being paid placements, students can also use the experiences to conduct research towards their theses/final projects, pending ethics and other necessary academic approvals.
The deadline for application is midnight, November 2nd. Interviews will follow shortly thereafter, with hiring decisions made in mid-late November.
My research has indicated that at U of Manitoba, students from the following Departments/Programs might be interested and suitable for the internship positions:
* Agribusiness and Agricultural Economics (MSc)
* City Planning (MCP)
* Economics (MA)
* Environment and Geography (MEnv/MSc)
* Food Science (MSc)
* Geography (MA)
* Human Nutritional Sciences (MSc)
* Interdisciplinary Graduate Programs (MA)
* Management (MBA)
* Native Studies (MA)
* Plant Science (MSc)
* Political Studies (MA)
* Social Work (MSW)
* Sociology (MA)
* Soil Science (MSc)
I hope you will forgive me if I am reaching out to the wrong contact - I've found that internships processes vary by institution, department and program and can be challenging to figure out. That being said, I look forward to your advice and support in connecting these opportunities to the right people; If it suits their programs, I am sure students will be enthusiastic about these opportunities to apply their skills and knowledge towards tangible community projects.
Thank you in advance for your assistance!
Warmly,
Nathan

Dear Deans,
I would like to bring to your attention an exciting opportunity related to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada`s (AAFC) future capacity needs to grow Canadian agriculture science and innovation.
On September 21, 2018, Minister MacAuley announced a transformational Government of Canada investment of $70 million in agricultural discovery science and innovation. As part of this investment, over $44 million will be dedicated to hiring and equipping approximately 75 scientists and science professionals across the country over the next five years.
AAFC recently launched its first job poster aimed at recruiting approximately 40 research scientists in emerging fields such as, agro-ecology, artificial intelligence, the various-omics (genomics, phenomics, epigenetics, etc), and clean technologies. The recruitment for these positions will continue over the next 24 months or so.
Your institutions provide a key source of highly qualified personnel that we would like to tap into. As such, I would appreciate if you could help us promote this opportunity by sharing this job poster: Research Scientists - Growing Agricultural Innovation<https://emploisfp-psjobs.cfp-psc.gc.ca/psrs-srfp/applicant/page1800?poster=…> and encouraging potential candidates to visit our recruitment booths at various career fairs and other university events across the country.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank your organisations for helping us, through our on-going dialogue, shape the vision for AAFC science and the types of professionals that we would need to support a progressive and sustainable agricultural sector in Canada.
Regards,
Gilles

Chers doyens,
Gilles

New #UMGradGoals<http://bit.ly/2P8jX69> Guide Aims to Inspire Graduate Student Success
Are you a new graduate student to the University of Manitoba and wondering what you need to do to get started on the right track? Or, are you a continuing graduate student wondering how to stay on track?
The Faculty of Graduate Studies new online guide, #UMGradGoals<http://bit.ly/2P8jX69>, provides key academic program, funding, and professional development information that every graduate student should know about.
The #UMGradGoals<http://bit.ly/2P8jX69> guide is organized into four stages that are foundational for every student’s positive graduate school experience. Within each stage, important academic goals and program milestones are identified so that graduate students can track and plan their progress independently to ensure success. Even if things don’t go quite according to plan, #UMGradGoals<http://bit.ly/2P8jX69> provides suggestions and advice for students to assess their situation and figure out how to get back on track.
Students are able to share their #UMGradGoals<http://bit.ly/2P8jX69> with other students as a way of establishing connections and fostering a sense of community across disciplines and campuses.
Whether you are a new or a returning graduate student, #UMGradGoals<http://bit.ly/2P8jX69> provides the information needed to complete your program and share your success with your community and beyond.
